Not sure what FL's carry laws are, but the sucky part is that if you had a legal weapon, and took him down after he got your wallet, you would probably go to jail as the "imminent threat to your life" would have passed and the assailant would have been fleeing, if his gun was no longer pointed in your direction, when you were able to draw on him.

We just went CCW in Ohio about 3 months ago, and i have already read of this exact thing happening. The assailant's family is bringing civil charges against the person who was robbed at gunpoint and shot back-the assailant lived, but is apparently disabled.

it's a screwed up legal world out there, that's for sure.
IF you EVER pull the trigger - make sure you finish the job. If you can't, you shouldn't carry. A dead thief can't change the story or sue, and its much harder for the next of kin to do so. Besides you're performing a public service.

GUN CONTROL MEANS HITTING YOUR TARGET !!

Yea, you can't pop'em if they are going away from you but a quick "Hey Azzhole" will probably get'em to turn around and face you.
And you'll have the advantage of surprise because the butthole just 'raped' you over anyway and won't expect you to be ready to handle the situation.

The 'threat to my life' wouldn't have been over until the MFer was drowning in his own blood. I truly would be just scared out of my mind thinking the guy was going to shoot me and all and that he may have turned around and came back to get me again. I'd be pretty hysterical, probably.

Seriously this would be a HIGH STRESS event for ANYONE. Particulary the fact that you are going to have to take someone's life. But if you stop to think about that at the time, the thug will probably get YOU. So don't think about it then. Think about it beforehand.

He pointed a gun at you. Surely he would have shot you if you hadn't cooperated with him. To think anything else would be gravely naive.

Get your CCL. Practice up. It could happen again.

Go over as many scenarios as you can while you're sitting in your easy chair. That way you won't have to figure out as much in the next confrontation because you'll have already decided what YOU are going to do.

Then carry out your plan and don't hesitate.

There's plenty of places in a Vette to carry your piece. Well, not plenty but three that I use myself.
The fourth is in the wells behind the seat. That one is not good because it takes too long to get your weapon out of there.

Here's some good spots:

1) Best for quick access (like pumping gas at night) Under the very front of the drivers seat.. really more just on the front floor under the lip of the seat.
Quick and easy if your are in the Vette or just need to reach in from outside and get your 'tool'.
2) In the center console. No explanation needed but you'll have to have a fairly small tool for it to fit in there. 9mm, 380's and stuff like that.
I'm a large bore guy myself but Colt's .45 and Glocks 21 model don't like to fit in there.
3) Behind the passenger seat... slide the seat forward about one notch. Your piece will fit right behind the seat with the seatback in the full upright position.
This is an easy place to get to if needed while you are inside the car.

If you wear a sports coat, ost ofthem have apocket just inside the lapel.
GREAT place to carry your tool. Not in a holster, just riding in your pocket.
Works good in the cooler months. Hotter months don't offer much for carrying concealed..

Yep, you'll be doing the rest of the world a favor to be 'taking care of bidness".

Oh one last thing. I NEVER,NEVER,NEVER carry a piston in the cylinder.
I also can't imagine a scenario where I can't rack one in there if I can get my hands on my weapon. It's just toooo dangerous carrying one in the chamber or under the hammer.
There'll be lots of opinions on this but not having the fuse lit makes me feel a lot better. I'll get'er all primed up when I come out with'er.

I've only had one incident since I decided to go 'prepared'. A guy tried to get in my car at a traffic light. I grabbed my piece and racked one in. Didn't even point it, just layed it in my hand and held my hand up for the guy to see.
Palm up, tool just laying in my hand, benign.
He looked at my hand and then into my eyes. It was like magic. The guy dissapeared. All I could see was the soles of his shoes as he was running away. Probably went and changed his underwear.

When the police are always there to protect me THEN I'll give up my weapon(s).

btw, you'll need a backup. AMC,I think, Americam Arm's (?) makes a good small "Backup 380" that'll fit most anywhere you want to stash it.
It's a little small for a primary but you never know when you'll need a backup.

Sorry you were violated. Get all saddled up and be ready for next time.
That will probably guarantee it will never happen again.
Practice your double taps. You don't wat to 'partially' do this.
Anyway try not to let it bother you so much. You're mad.violated, pissed and disgusted and you should be. But time heals all wounds of this sort. You'll be ok. And next time, you'll be 'prepared'.
Now you'll be able to protect yourself and the rest of the 'gungrabbers' out there that hoot and holler about 'gun control'.

I always carry a black .357 mag wheel gun every time I leave the house, even in the summer.

Well I think if you had a weapon in this case it would only have made things worse. He had his pointed at you so you couldn't shoot him while he was threatening you. (If you tried to pull it he could have shot you) Then he just walked away. If you would have shot him then you would probably be locked up right now and having a lot more trouble than just a few missing credit cards.

I'm all for the right to carry, but if I'd have been carrying I would have been tempted to pull the gun on the guy.

Whenever I get gas I always look around cause sometimes as soon as you stop for gas someone will ask for money. When I see them I tell them before they approach me to back off and I am ready for their next move.Always be aware of your surroundings.

Sorry you had that experience. It's time to take advantage of your state's concealed carry law. If there is a next time, and I hope there isn't, as the A.H. is walking away say "hey you forgot something" and blast the bastard when he turns around. You don't want to shoot him in the back. Get a nice CDP .45 from Kimber or Springfield. They make excellent carry weapons.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I am glad that all he got was my wallet that didn't have any money in it. I keep my cash in my other pocket. I would have deffinately for trying to take the Vette.
Yeah, I think the laws are giving the idiots to many rights. I heard about a robber that broke into smeone's house and the dog caught and bit him in the house. The person at home at the time called the cops. He was arrested in the home. The guy that broke into the house sued and won for the dog biting him. Now that's pretty messed up.
I have all my credit cards already and the idiot didn't get anything. Thanks again for all the great replies. :flag

I have a Kahr PM40 that is pretty compact. Last I know it was the smallest .40 cal you can buy. It works well but it's not a lot of fun to shoot. It would probably also do well as a hamburger grinder. But if you want light and very compact AND punch - that is what you get. Definitely a purpose built "tool".

As I recall I also looked at the AMC .380. I think that's the one I even had decided to buy until I decided to step up to a little more power and quality with the Kahr. The AMC would probably do the job and it's inexpensive, but if you ever find yourself in the position where you need to pull the trigger you'll want as much as you can get. And if you ever get into that situation price also does not matter - does it? The Kahr is a good compromise between punch and ability to carry.

God willing you'll never have to use it.
