The stock rear end ratio for automatic cars is 2.73. The optional performance axle option is 3.15.
This provides better acceleration as you are higher in the rpm range in any gear/mph.
If you are planning on modding the car for more power, upgrading to the 3.42 or 3.73 ratios would be better yet, so you might not consider this option important. If you plan on keeping the car stock, then the 3.15 performance axle is definitely desirable.

I am currently driving a 98 vert with an A4 w/2.73 in SM2 and getting my butt kicked. I do some roadcourse events and have upgraded just about everything uder the car. Would a 3.15 or 3.42 setup be better for auto-x and how would it work for a 1.9 mile roadcourse with straight away speeds just over 100 mph currently using Low 2. Anyone know of an RPM to Speed chart for various gear ratio's.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
George
I have a speed to RMP spead sheets. You can also put in the different gear ratios, change tire sizes and the lot.
Send me an email or pm with your email addy and I will send it to you.
in short I have a MN6 with a 3.42. I do a lot of track days and drive with ZO6 - MN12 and some with 4.10 gears. Lets put it this way. They shift A LOT MORE then I do and they are not faster.
Corvettes have the torque and dont always need to stay above 4000 rpm for great acceleration.
