Actually a number of members report this problem. I had it with my '99 until they replaced the sending units in the fuel tanks. I have not had it happen to my '00. Sometimes it happens as a result of the sulphur content in the gas. Try switching gas brands and see if that helps.
My Gas Gage changes from 1/2 full to empty from empty to 1/2 full. I have no Idea how much gas I have. Is this a isolated problem.
Did you buy Shell, Chevron or Texaco in June. There was an article that the refinery it came from Motiva had too much sulphur & was ruining gas senders & that they will pay for the repairs.

Check your COmputer code and see if you are get either one of these codes, P1431 or P0461
To check your codes Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occured in the past) but is fine now. Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".
Also welcome to the fault fuel gauge club I have had a major problem within the past few weeks.
Please keep us posted. My sensor(s) is toast, and I'd like to try the new ones. My '01 is out of warranty and I just want to have to change them one last time.
I have a problem with my Gauge, it that it will go from full to empty; however, when I stop and put the car in Park the gauge returns to full or whatever the correct reading should be. Had this exact same problem with my Grand Prix, the fix was to reflash the PCM.
