Default Seats

I find the seats very "comfy".

Default Z06 Seats Suck

My only significant complaint about my '04 Z06 is the seats.

The General provided some pretty supportive, if not well designed for entry & exit, seats in the Sport Seats for the C4s. By the 1996 Sport Seats, they had a bit less lateral support, but were relatively easy in/out and were fairly light & strong. I liked the compromise of the '96 Sport Seats enought to buy a spare set of Collector Edition seats for my '89 before I installed Sparco race seats.

Maybe I should try the '96 CE seats (black) in my Z06?

My Z06 seats seem to have a frame made from an old coat hanger. I have a harness bar & belts, but the seats have totally inadequate lateral support. For a $50K "race car" these seats are a joke. I'm thinking about changing them to Sparcos or similar. :flag

Those of you who want a little more bolster support could try a "trick" that they use at Bragg-Smith driving school: there are a couple of springs at the back of the seat cushion that can be removed, and it will put you a little deeper into the seat.

How about some pictures of this Bragg-Smith seat trick. Can I put the springs back if I don't like it or would they have to be cut?

Default Shoulda had Recaros

I actually think the stock Z06 seats are very comfortable, but I would agree that lateral support is totally inadequate. But then I have the center console/hump and door panel to brace against for those occasional forays towards 1g.

Anyhow, a car like this deserves nothing less than a lovely set of leather-clad Recaro seats. Heck, my '84 GTI even had Recaros! Does that company still exist?

i also agree with the comfort-is-relative comment -- having spent most of the last 35 years in 2nd generation models with waaay stiffer suspension and waaay less foam in the seats...

i love my z!

Try sitting in the Sport Seats and you won't think the standard Z06 are comfortable.

My seats are fine, actually great. If you treat the leather properly, it will last a long time. My seats look like new after 28,000 miles.

unfortunately very little of the Z06 seat is leather.

I had mine converted to sport seats too from Vette Essentials-now I have real leather, extra cushion AND a pass-through for my race belts

I haven't had the pleasure of tracking our car yet, but I find the seats pretty comfortable compared to our '81. For the track, lateral support will be lacking I'm sure. Also, the need for a four point harness will be needed to really feel secure. I plan on tracking the car at least twice this year just to get a good feel for it, then I'll do what I need.
