Default Z06 Seats

Does anyone know why the Z06 has such crappy seats? We should have had the same style seats for comfort, they didn't have to include the lumbar system, if weight was the issue.

I have no issue with the seats, only that I can see the leather is cheap and will not wear well.

What I meant by crappy is, they aren't as comfortable as the sport seats. And Yes the leather is to thin, I'm afraid I will tear them.

If you think the leather is thin or weak, you should see the leather seats in an F-body. The Vette seats are a HUGE upgrade. I have no problem with my Z06 seats, just a little leather conditioner every so often and they will last quite some time.

I aggree that they are crappy. No lateral support. I changed mine out to sport seat foam with custom Vette Essentials leather. I love them now. Support and great quality leather.

My C4 seats were a lot better. I can't figure out what the people at GM were thinking. If you think about it, it is the most used part of the car. I hear the C6 seats are going to be better.

There more-or-less "cheap" seats are the trade-offs with the Z06 performance.....they shaved weight almost everywhere they could..

I guess I'm the odd one, I think my seats are more comfortable than the Sport seats I had in my coupe. Then again I spend many, many hours sitting in an ACES 2 ejection seat, so I guess comfort is relative. :flag

Try putting the Z06 seat and seatbelt in your jet, then pulling a couple of lateral G's....For a car that is rated at 1 lateral G, it should have better seats, period.

Well I came from an f-body as well and have never sat in a sport seat. The Z06 seats are a thousand times better than f-body seats so I guess its all relative. The first time I sat in the Z06 seats I felt like I was going to melt right into the seat, although I will say that the side support is nowhere near as good as the C4.

I know I can put Sport seats in my Z06. My question was why did GM not include them? How much weight are we talking about here that they could have saved? Wouldn't they have saved more by not including the dual climate control and power driver's seat motor.

The leather is the same for the base seats and the Sport Seats. I had the base seats in my 99 and upgraded them to the Sport Seats. They felt better because the foam was new and VE provides some nice thick felt booties that slip over the bolster area on the seat frame. But if you look at the construction, thinkness etc there is no difference. The bladders are the only thing missing, and to be honest I didn't miss them. GM could have offered this as a seat upgrade option minus the bladders and would have made a fortune sine the cost would have been insignificant. They missed out on some easy bucks. I'd fire someone for that.

Here's some photo's of my base seat to Sport Seat upgrade project:

Base seats

Seat Frame with a mod I found (used some door edge stuff to prevent the sharpe edge of the bolster from wearing through the new cushions.

Next I installed the VE Felt Booties (to help prevent wear through) and this piece I suspect makes the upgrade kit seats feel better, more support since they are a schose tighter.

GM should have done this.

Finished product

And from another angle

This cost me just at $1000 since I also purchased the seat back trim bezels and the seat latches themselves as I didn't want the little black lever sticking out like a sore thumb against all that RED.

I may do the Z.

Very nice but, now you don't have the Z06 emblem on the seats.

True, but I think I know what I'm driving and since I don't eyes in the back of my head I doubt I'd miss them.

Oh I know you know but, the seat emblem is just another Z06 perk that does add to its overall value. Isn't there a way to get covers with the emblem?
