Default First post --headlights ??

Hey. This is my first post, sorry about the length. I just got my first vette 3 weeks ago, a silver 2001 convertible. It's hard to wipe the smile off my face when I think about driving anywhere these days. I've owned a turbo supra and a turbo stealth and was considering a new 350z but this car is hands down the best of the bunch. I can sum it up in three words; the corvette wave

But on to my rant.... Although I love every aspect of my new car the one feature that disappoints me is the performance of the car's headlights. They have no clearly defined pattern and putting different bulbs in them makes no difference to the resulting light.

I've read on this forum that some people have put the Euro-spec lenses in the cars because they are glass, use a single bulb, and provide a better beam pattern. I know my local dealer will order them in but I just wanted to confirm with someone who has done this what the correct GM part number is. There seem to be a few to choose from in my dealer's parts listings.

Once the lens are upgraded I might consider, down the road, trying to install some sort of aftermarket HID kit. Do any of you have any suggestions or warnings of things to watch out for while I'm planning this out?

And one final question... Is there any way that I can turn off or diasable the twilight sentinel on my Canadian Vette eh? It drives me crazy. I hate not being in control of the headlights.

Thanks folks !!

I installed the euro headlights a few months ago. I ordered the kit form PFYC which came with the lens, bulbs and hd wiring harness. Pretty easy install and the kit comes with everything you need. Here's a link to their site
http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...ory_Code=VTEXT

I'm very happy with the results.

I'm in the process of doing the Euro conversion to H4 bulbs and have had contact with both PFYC and Daniel Stern Lighting. Both have been really helpful, so now it's a matter of deciding between PFYC with PIAA lamps and Daniel Stern and Narva.

I upgraded to the Sylvania Silverstars.

With some pretty hefty scientific equipment, you might be able to detect a difference from stock.

I don't have any information as far as geting the Euro - Spec Lenses.

But you can shut the Twlight off if you push your button labeled Options. Keep pushing the button until you come to Twlight. Yours will say ON push the Reset button to turn it off.

Welcome and ENJOY!!!!

Congrats on the car and welcome to the forum. Lots of threads on lighting in the past here. I just have the stock lights and know what you mean about them being weak.

I believe I have read elsewhere that the Canadian cars cannot turn the twilight function off. Guy from Canada was complaining about it on another thread.

I don't think you can. In Canada DRL is a law, in the US it's a "feature".

Personally I like it. I think the running lights look cool. You can always tell it's a Vette coming the other way...

If you want to disable the sentinel you use a couple of small screwdrivers and remove the dash grille. On the drivers side is the sentinel. 1/4 twist and the harness comes off the sensor. Then install a 1.8 k ohm resistor in it's place. Tape it up and tie a string or something to it and tape it to the grille. I dropped mine into the dash and will retrieve it when I put my gage bezels on. If you ever want to return to normal you can just reverse the install. Hope that helps. If you need more info PM me.

And welcome to the greatest forum on the net EH! Fellow Canuck here. There are a few of us guys hanging around here. Miles of smiles.

I have the Euro headlights, and they are better than the stock plastic housings, but another option you may want to consider is getting some PIAA 1100x driving lights. They are GREAT, and are easily installed into the stock fog light brackets.

The Euro lights are T84s. I got mine from PFYC, a Forum Vendor and they come with a custom harness to fit them. You need the harness for the higher wattage bulbs (PIAA 135/90). For anyone going to UK you would need the T85 headlight units to dip the other way (driving on the left).
