Be Predator or LS1 edit? And I know that there are many opinions of which is best. When is it time to get a programmer or tune your car. I have a blackwing, borla stingers and just bought supermaxx header kit. Should I look at getting a Predator or some type of programmer? I am in northeast Louisiana and there are no tuners close so a custom tune is not possible. Thanks
I had mine tuned after adding intake and exhaust mods to get the most out of them. Besides, I had increased the intake so much it was running lean and needed the tune up.
"Typically", you should not have to do a tune after an intake and catback install, as the PCM should be able to adjust. But as cajun said, the car can be running fairly lean with an intake upgrade, even after the PCM does it's thing. I would think that you would definitely want to do a tune after a header install.
BTW, I am considering a "mail order" tune for my basic intake and exhaust mod setup. I have seen posts about tuners mailing out PCMs "tuned" for your mods. I'd only be able to do this if they could send me the "tuned" PCM first, as my car is a daily driver.
Roscoe: I agree with you. Maybe I should be more specific.
I added a Lingenfelter Z06 intake manifold to my 00 coupe in addition to the upgrade air filter, TB, etc., and it made my 02 sensors go nuts. I got the famous "check engine" light and a high rev upon starting. Of course tuning resets the air/fuel mix and that took care of it.

For sure you should have an edit done now. Aside from the car throwing codes, why spend the money on mods & not get the optimum performance from them?

Thanks........
Oh, yeah, that's a bit more than just adding a Blackwing and Air Duct
If I am not seeing the "check engine" light, or any codes, do you think it would be worth the $$$ for a "mail order" tune? I don't have a shop close by that can do a "custom" tune.
I'd be interested in knowing how "lean" anyone's car was running, with just an intake & exhaust upgrade, from actual dyno results.
