Default Rim Sizing Question

I have the stock size rims on my Z06; 17x9.5 and 18x10.5, for my regular use rims/tires.

My question is;
Can I go with the non-Z06 rim sizes; 17x8.5 and 18x9.5, with new rubber (coupe C5 sizes) for track events? Will this screw anything up while I drive the 100 miles to the track? Or should I look for a used set of Z06 rims to run on the track?

The reason is I have a chance to get a set of Y2K rims for next to nothing as an extra track set, rather than buy Z rims.

Thanks.

Shouldn't hurt anything, but would be less tire on the ground.

Yes I realize I lose the contact patch, but for a free set of rims, I can deal with that!

Thanks.

The guys at Bragg-Smith said the main difference between their Z06's and the coupes (for track times) was the tires. I'm sure it'll still be fun, but you won't get the most out of the car. But like you say, free is good!

The biggest problem with using the standard C5 sizes is the availability of racing rubber. It just isn't available except from Hoosier and Goodyear. I tried using the stock size rims from 97-99 then went to a set of C4 GS wheels which is what GM was recommending for T1 racing. Those wheels and the various tires I could get to use with them gave me a big improvement.
