99 Coupe
I have the factory 12 disc changer loaded with 12 CD's. Issue is static, like a faint radio station.
Radio is crystal clear, CD has static and a lot of distortion.

(I just bought the car Sunday)
Anyone had this problem? What's the resolution?
Are you playing store bought CDs, or CDRs that you've burned?
Any resolution to this problem? I have the same issue although Store boughts play okay and CDR's are scratchy. I'm assuming yours is just worse than mine. Your car is a 1999 I believe. Can anyone confirm if the same changer was used for all model years? Mine is a 1999 too.
I've got an 01 Vert and I was having the same problem but only with CDRs. All store bought CDs played fine. There are a few threads about this, but I couldn't fine one that really helped me solve my problem. I had cheap cdrs and music cdrs and some worked, some didn't. These were all burned on different burners and using different software, so there was really no way for me to establish a pattern. Finally I decided to copy some malfunctioning cdrs keeping track of what burner and software I used. I tried using an internal burner model # (who cares cuz it didn't work) and adaptec cd creator and I had the same problem. I then took the same cdr and copied it using my Sony DVD/CD burner using Nero software and lo and behold it worked. Unfortunately, I've got no explanation why it worked with one and not the other, but what this did confirm was that there was nothing wrong with my cd changer, except that it's pretty damn picky, since all my cd players played the malfunctioning cdrs. Anyway, if all else fails, you can try this approach and see if you find a combo that works. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
While I am glad you seem to have fixed your problem, I think that it is more of a bandaid than a real fix. I think what is happening is you are just matching very closely to a storebought CD. The CD changers laser is probably still out of alignment. I'm perplexed with this issue because it just does not make logical sense that some people can play cdr's in their changers and some people cannot. Clearly it is the CD changer and not the CDR's. I'm sure that everyone who has CDR's working well in their changer are not using a Sony DVD burner with Nero. Anyway, Congrats on your success.

I had a cd changer in my '99 and used it in all kinds of weather. I never had the problem being described here. My 2004 also has the changer and no problems so far. I play only factory produced cd's.
Playing the factory CD's seems to work fine in almost all of the changers. Do you happen to know if the changer is different in your 04 from your 99?
