Default question reguarding 04 vette

My friend just picked up an 04 and inside above the seat belts are these potruding pieces of plastic. This is not in my 01. Also noticed leather boot on e-brake and shifter is a softer form of leather. And on the side of the seats near center console material does not feel velvety any more fells like cheaper material?

I am mostly qurious about the things above the seat belts on both sides of the car.

Thanx Joe

Hmmm, funny you bring that up, i to noticed and wondered what the 'bulge' on the pillar is to. I didn;t notice it on my 01'
And the leather booty around the brake is softer on mine also, so maybe thats a C-6 upgrade

There was just a thread on those. They are federally mandated saftey items, supposed to stop your head from hitting the b-piller too hard. But consensus is they are so far away from your head, they wouldn't do much good. BTW, there is nothing but empty space behind them. (They appeared in the '03s for the first time).
