Default Cags

Is the CAGS by-pass small wire loom some thing that can be purchased from the local Chevy dealer or is this an after market thing.

Aftermarket. Go to any of the vendors on the left of the page...you'll have it in a couple days.

my first mod

if you get tired of having to react to the 1st to 4th then order one and put it in. . . .that issue does not bother many but it did me . . . all of us have slightly different acceleration and shifting patterns . . . to each his own . . . easy mod . . .

And those who drive their Zs everyday experience this issue when in traffic etc.

It's easier for me to just use higher rpm's in first to second than install a CAGS defeat.

I think this is the central issue either way. For me it was easier to install the CAGS...it took all of 19 bucks and 15 minutes and it was done. I live in a large CA city and drive in rush hour traffic. The Z is my daily driver and in stop and go traffic I face the CAGS issue once every two minutes...best mod I ever did and it works great for me. If you get along better without it than go with the stock set up.

I don't see how living in a large city has anything to do it. Just increasing the rpms a tad defeats the CAGS. So if you used to shift at 2k rpms, try 3k. The engine is hardly winding out doing this.

bypassed my CAGs the day I took delivery for 12 1/2 cents. Radio Shack resistors 4 for 50 cents do the exact same thing the aftermarket is making a fortune on. A must do mod before getting rear ended.

Me too. I couldn't wind it up to 3K just to let it wind back down, it would be too jumpy at those RPMs and the shift to fourth just kept pissing me off.

Wind up to 3k? Hardly much trouble and the car isn't jumpy at those rpms. You don't have to do it quickly, you can do it slowly and controlled. It's not a big deal. I drive my car like a normal person with just a tad higher rpm shift into second and with no CAGS 1st to 4th effect

It's interesting that you don't have this issue.

I don't think I drive that much differently than any other Corvette owner: hard acceleration unless someone is in front of me, parking way out in the middle of nowhere, and donuts in the Costco parking lot when it rains.

I got the CAG defeat right away after I bought my car. I just guess that I really didn't want to have to drive the car like a normal person with just a tad higher RPM shift into second. I shift however I want to with the CAGS defeat. Isn't that the way it's suppose to be?

The only time it affects me is the most inconvenient time - usually making a left turn downtown in a 20 mph zone. Irritating as hell. Otherwise I never encounter it. Still gonna install the defeat at some point when I get the car in the air.

It always used to effect me going up my parking garage at work.

I still don't see why any of you would have to shift so early into second. Fight the urge, the engine won't break. You would be surprised how controlled and smooth the engine is in first gear with just a tad more rpms. But, I guess if you like to drive like a granny then a CAGS defeat would be in order. Just kidding.
