Went down to NJ yesterday for Supercharger John's BBQ party (had a great time, thread in the norteast section). On the way back, I noticed that my baby was pinging a little bit if I accelerated hard (past 70 mph  ). It was extremely humid outside, close to 100% since it was about to rain and you could feel how sticky it was outside. The temp outside was like 91. Now in the past, I've noticed that when I have the AC on, I feel the vette is ever so slightly less responsive and does ping ever so slightly. I turned off the AC and for a few minutes kept the windows up (even though we started suffocating and had to open them later on) and when I turned off the AC, the pinging went away. Does this sound normal under the conditions I was driving in or do you think my vette might be running a bit to lean (I have a blackwing and a CF air bridge). Should I think about doing a tune or a decarb procedure? I kept my open later on and she ran very smoothly and responded great. What do you think?
Lots of things can cause pinging, low octane gas, carbon buildup, dirty EGR, using too high a gear when accelerating. What gear did you use when you nailed the throttle to accelerate? Did you drop down a gear to two to accelerate? 6th gear is so overdriven I would not even attemp to pass someone using 6th gear and might even expect some pinging if you hit the throtte hard in 6th. Are you using the proper octane gas? Running the A/C on any car will create a slight load on the engine which will rob some of the car's power.
All that said, a carbon depletion service and inspecton of the EGR system may be your best bet. I am sure the atmoshpheric conditions may have contributed to your condition but I am sure ithey are not the cause. It may have only made the condition more pronounced. Good Luck with it.
Its an automatic so I just mashed that vertical long thingie on the right to make it go :bb Seriously though, I only use premium 93 octane, change her oil regularly, etc. If it happens again, I think I will try the carbon depletion service and / or EGR check up. Thanks.
