It's a common problem on the C5. It's actually water coming out of the wiper washers. You can stop it by keeping the washer fluid tank below 1/2 full. Or you can buy a Ford part and install it in-line with the washer fluid lines to prevent this.
I don't know what the part # is for that piece but, I am sure someone else has it.

I zip-tied the rubber hose going to the wipers.

Default Factory check valve

There is a factory fix: they will install a check valve in the wiper system that solves the problem (at one time people were buying a Ford part to fix this issue). Be sure your wiper fluid is filled and mixed correctly (proper amount of wiper fluid mixed with water), and to test your wiper sprayer before leaving the dealer.

Tears of joy for driving the Z the way it was mean't to be driven.

Seriously, what has already been posted is the answer.

It's a contest. Whoever can spray the most liquid at the end of the year wins a free blower. Gotta keep practicing those hard launches.

Good for you. Your pushing that right foot so hard that you are sucking the fluid out of the resivour tank.

I should spend more time in the tech sections. I've long wondered what the deal was with this...

Do the dealers know about this fix ? Does anyone have a part number ?

Default Check Valve Fix Info

Yes, the dealer should be able to perform this repair (GM Technical Assistance can help them if they have not seen this issue before):

CUST. STATES WIPER FLUID LEAKS ON HARD ACCELERATION.
CAUSE: LEAKING
N3860 PUMP ASSEMBLY, WASHER - R&R OR REPLACE
54 WAR5 0.60
1 22102237 VALVE

Make sure the washer fluid is filled up (with GM Washer Fluid and water mix), and test system before leaving dealer (test the sprayer to make sure fluid can be sprayed on windshield).

More info:

Part Info (Click on Search next to the part number).

Thanks for the details of the fix - when the windshield is wet and the hood is vibrating I know it is time to shift into 5th!

So there is a GM fix for this well documented problem. I always heard GM knew about it but didn't do anything to correct it yet.

Default Solutions to Common Problems

Checking the work order, the fix appears to have been available since 1/20/03 (~ 1.5 years). I posted the fix around that time.

Perhaps CF could use a 'solutions to common problems' section (similar to an FAQ)... It would not be possible to "post" to such a section (additions would be 'submitted' and moderated). Thus, such a section would only contain valid solutions (high signal to noise ratio, easy to find information). Additionally, solution submissions could be discussed in a 'staging area' and after review/revision, moved to a permanent SCP section.

Some frequently asked Z06 questions (with known fixes/workarounds):

1. Column lock.
2. Rocking seats.
3. Leather care and seat wear (including seam/bolster issues).
4. Battery issues.
5. Exhaust jingle.
6. Amount of oil to add.
7. Checking the oil level.
8. Oil consumption issues (what is 'normal', and proper repair).
9. Piston slap, why it's not 'normal', and proper repair.
10. "Normal noises" (thus 'no problem' / 'no worries').
11. Wind noise.
12. Rattles / squeaks.
13. Leaking wiper fluid.
14. Clutch issues (sticking, vibration, etc.).
15. Shifter issues.
16. Transmission issues.
17. Suspension/frame issues (including noises).
18. Rear end issues (including leaking seals).
19. DIC error codes.
20. Orange peel and how to fix it.
21. How to fix chips/scratches (paint issues).

and so on...

All this info with fixes/suggestions could be organized in one place. Would be helpful to all and also reduce common question posts (saving bandwidth/disk space).

If this is true then why didn't GM fix my 2003 that was built after 1/20/03?

Not clear why your car didn't get the fix when it was built. You can get it fixed now, though.

Only problem with that, is I have to take in and let a dealership service department touch the car. I can only imagine how many new scratches I will find.
