Default Repeat posts

The repeated posts do not bother me. In fact, it's good to see how many problems are being experienced and the different views. If we had only one post on a subjest, how would we know it was a widespread issue. I was going to wait on the CLB, but now, it's being ordered. Sid.

How does one know if this bypass is on his car, if it was purchased used?
Is there something noticeable with this kit installed ?
Please respond if at all possible or email me please.

When you turn your ignition on or off, you should hear a short buzz as the lock engages or disengages. If you can turn your wheel with your ignition off and key out, you have the bypass installed or its been disabled.

What WWK888 stated is correct. Especially if you have a six-speed. The factory repair doesn't include the removal of the lock.

You can also check with your dealer if you have a newer A4 to see if the repair has been done to verify any work by a previous owner.

Here is a link to how to install a CLB (credit to kenrrob).
This will give you a pretty good idea of what's involved...should take less than half an hour to put one in.

Suggesting the use of the Forum's search feature wasn't meant to be mean and nasty from frustration. If you've noticed lately responses from experienced owners regarding THIS PARTICULAR subject has dropped off somewhat.

Suggesting the use of the search engine is to open the new owner up to even more posts on the problem...not to give them a hard time. If you're new and you ask "My column locked, what do I do" and only a few respond then you don't get much to read. If you do a search on the same subject the new owner will get dozens and dozens of posts and responses to help him decide which course may be the best for him to pursue to rectify his column problem.

Using a search engine is not rocket science and I think it's fair to assume that with the demographics of Corvette owners that our collective intelligence level is up to the task. All you have to do is click on the link at the top of the page and enter your subject...not too difficult usually.

What I think is incredible is that sooo many people know of the problem but do nothing...and then when it hits them they post like it's a revelation

But just to show I'm not completely heartless here is a link with tons of responses from the old Forum format....

edit...I just saw where Grumpy made that thread a "sticky" on the top of C5 General. Good move!! Oh well, I tried.

The next time someone asks this question, then let this guy you just helped tell them. You shouldn't feel like you have to answer, so much so that you get upset because someone asks a question you've answered many times. You don't have to answer every question. You don't have to click on every link, especially if it's going to cause your blood pressure to rise. What fun is that?? Which is what this forum and owning Corvettes is all about.

Do what the other "experienced forum posters" have done and stop answering the questions that you've answered time and again. Someone else will help out.

Why would a new member return to this Forum for help if they got blasted for asking a totally ligitimate question or for some help from more experienced owners?

I thought the idea here was to share knowledge and experience to be of some help to fellow Corvette people not to blast people for asking basic questions.

If not, then maybe CF should start a section on "Used Questions" and move all those posts on locked columns, gas gauge problems, EMTs, born on dates, mods, build sheets, new owners and people not waving back to that area.

Wouldn't be much fun, though.

It might be helpful if people would take the time to help the poster get his column unlocked. I don't have a column lock. I know I need to get one, but believe it or not, I have many other things in life to deal with then a column lock kit. I can unlock my wheel in under 30 seconds anyway. I'm more concerned with doing damage to the steering wheel then I am with the inconvenience. The biggest problem I notice here is that the methods listed don't really work. I have tried the methods on this site over and over and they don't unlock my car. Simply putting pressure on the wheel and turning the key has never unlocked it for me. You have to first start the car so it makes it easier to turn the wheel. Then you turn the car off, take out the key, and really grap that wheel and turn it back and forth until it is snapping through the lock on both sides. Don't be afraid, really let the aggression out, like the feeling you have when your wife comes home with a Louis Vuitton purse!! Put key in and turn and pop your column will be unlocked

No problem at all Dave.
Since you have been so lacking in posts to help new people with column lock problems by providing usable advice and links to "how-to's" etc I guess you'll be filling in the void so others can benefit from your extensive experience.
