Don't let everyone fool you into thinking you need POP protection right now because it is only used in one state (Nevada) and it still isn't wide spread there yet. The X50 does pick up K band POP and KA band POP but it falses more when it is turned on, that is why when you buy an X50 it is turned off. The Valentine does pick up K band POP but doesn't pick up KA band POP but they are about to fix that in the next couple of months. If you live in Nevada, go with the X50 but if you live in another state, get the V1 for the best all around radar and laser detection.
The Valentine is the only detector that alerted to laser at over 1/4 mile when the car in front of it was shot with laser. It picks up X and K band radar (75%-80% of radar used is this band) over 11 miles away which beats the X50 and the Bel RX65 and it picks up KA band (20%-25% of radar used is this band) radar at 10.8 miles away which is slightly less that the X50 and RX65.
The Valentine One is the only radar detector with two antennas so you can know which direction the radar is coming from so you know when you can speed up again. The X50 and the RX65 are good radar detectors but people with them cannot tell you definitively where the radar is coming from or how many sources of radar because the X50 only shows 2 K, 2 KA, and 4 X band sources so if you have more that 2 K or 2 KA, you are screwed. The arrows are a must if you have a Corvette so you can continue speeding which is what they are made for. If the Valentine One is a Corvette, the X50 is a Camaro in my honest opinion. It is made out of magnesium which keeps heat and electronic interference from other radar detectors out and is one of the strongest things you can make an electronic device out of while the X50 is plastic.
The Valentine One has been the best since 1992 and Escort has been making plastic inferior products since Mike Valentine left them. The last excellent product they made prior to the X50 is the original Escort and original Passport (these set the bar for radar detectors) in the 80's and early 90's when Mike Valentine was still with them. It is funny that the Valentine One looks almost the same but has changed almost everything on the inside including software. It is known throughout the world as #1, that is why they sell for so much money on Ebay in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
I have also heard alot of people complaining that the X50 locks up in hot temperatures and will not work which I have never heard of happening with the Valentine One. The X50 claims to have a new antenna design which is supposedly different from their 8500 which they claim was better than the V1. It is called a superheterodyne varactor-tuned antenna and that antenna should sound familiar to people who owned the original Passport from 1990 because, GUESS WHAT, it had a superheterodyne varactor-tuned antenna. Their claim is that it is up to 50% better in K and KA band radar than their 8500 but it still loses to the V1 in K and barely beats the V1 in KA. They claim it is a new design but I think the only thing new is their advertising campaign. I believe someone should call Escort and ask them what kind of antenna their original Passport had from 1990 and see what they say because I have the original owners manual with the proof that they are lying.
