Had the V1. Gave to the wifey and got the Passport. Sold the Passport and made the wifey give me back the V1. She got mad so I bought her another V1. I don't know about this POP cr@p but once you have arrows, you'll never go back. Besides, it sounds like POP is something that is still a long way from being used widespread. Hell, these small towns around here are still using X band !! 'Nuff said
POP radar increases FALSE ALARMS and is not widely used!!
This was taken directly from Escort's site about the X50. "Our Passport X50 has a selectable POP feature, so its POP mode radar detection can be switched on or off as desired. You may notice an increase in Ka-band false alerts when POP mode radar detection is switched on. We plan to have a POP update available for the original Passport 8500 by Spring 2005. We estimate the cost of the POP update will be $79.95 for detectors that are not covered by the Escort Extended Service Plan. Although POP radar is not widely used and is not a major threat at this time, the POP update will allow original Passport 8500 owners to have the selectable POP feature of the Passport X50 added to their detector. This will not increase the range or sensitivity of the original Passport 8500 and the red display cannot be changed to the blue display."
For what its worth, I was on a ride with a buddy of mine and we happened to have both have radar detectors and walkie talkies. My old V1 picked up a cop about 15 seconds before his did. I am forever sold with the V1
The Valentine 1 now has full 100% POP protection with no falsing
***Update*** That's right guys, Mike Valentine has once again made the best radar detector in the world even better. How is that possible? My friend ordered a V1 and on the top of the box was a letter telling of the Valentine One POP protection update. The V1 now has full POP protection on k an Ka band radar without constantly falsing on Ka like Escorts does.
All V1 radar detectors being sold now have full POP protection and when powered up show the letters P.O.P . You can also update your software through Valentine Research. This is protection that will catch POP 100% of the time, not 70% like Bel or 80% like Escort. As I have said in the past, full POP detection is possible but Escort and Bel just don't have the talent to design it. Valentine Research does and has made this possible. You can bet that the Passport 9500 or some new model will copy everything about this new update as they did with V1.7 software of the V1 and the Passport 8500. Don't just take my word for it, call VALENTINE ONE today to confirm it!!

Now, now ... no need to bring the steep pro-Valentine slant over here from Epinions. Bottom line is that all three are good units, and you'd be well-suited with any of them, right?
The V1 is gonna catch POP 100% of the time? Got proof?
And Bel and Escort don't have the talent? Okay. I'll take my apparently lacking x50 over my former Valentine any day.
