Default "Esurance"....???

Okay...After dealing with my insurance company for over a year from my auto wreck in Feb '03, I have decided to shop around for a new carrier. Even though they eventually paid out, I didn't appreciate the way I was treated, (big surprise), during the entire ordeal, espeically since I wasn't the at-fault party. I understand they never want to pay out, but I've had enough of their "tactics" in delaying the process.

So, I have decided to look elsewhere. I'm waiting till next month, since I'll hit that generic rate reduction age of 25. Yipee...lol.

Has anyone heard of http://www.esurance.com/quotebuilder...OVMTC=standard

I could save about 1/3 of what my premiums are now, while still keeping my 100/300/100 limits. I found a few articles on them on Forbes, Insurance Digest, etc, but nothing to detailed. They are underwritten by White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd.

For those in the western states, they are recomended online by 21st Century Insurance, (I have had 21st when I lived in San Diego and loved them), since they don't provide coverage in Texas.

So, long story short, I need to know if anyone has any first hand experience or knowledge with this company. Any help is appreciated,

TIA

I would be EXTREMELY cautious of ANY Texas based insurance company because of the lax financial standards and requirements that state has. You may get cheap rates and never get a claim settled, too.

Smaller, high-risk underwriters usually operate on thinner margins and may or may not be around from year to year.

Get a Best's Insurance or Standard & Poor's rating on any insurance company you are considering. Your insurance agent should be able to provide that information.

I just switched to Esurance because of the rates. Have no experience except for making premium.

Damn, with a $1000 deductible, that is quite a bit cheaper than I am paying with Progressive. Hmm.....

I switched to AIG since they seem to have a great rating. AAA was charging me twice the rate of AIG so I gave AAA the boot.

Check American Express insurance. I'm in the precess of looking/purchasing a new C5 and I've already contacted Amex insurance. My premium will be 708 every 6 mos. I thought that was pretty good. I prefer to go with name brand insurance companies.

I've never found anyone yet to beat what I pay State Farm. On my '04 Vette, I'm only paying $395 every six months, and it is my daily driver, not a pleasure vehicle.

Haven't heard of them. Check with your state's Insurance Division to see if they have any info on them.

I just checked AIG's website. They don't currently insure vehicles in Texas. (I guess because no one here knows how to drive...lol).
AAA refuses to insure me. I don't meet there "credit worthiness" criteria because of a chapter 7 a few years back.
I apparently don't meet AMEX's criteria either. I was told it is due to driving/claims history. (I only have one citation from 6/02, plus the claim from 2/03). I guess even though I wasn't at fault, they don't like the lump sum that Progressve had to pay me in the past.

Agghhhh!!!! I friggin hate auto insurance companies.
I think I'll just have to settle on Esurance next month, unless someone chimes in w/a bad experience with them. They're rated "A" on Best's thing, and there online BBB is still showing to be active and in good standing.

Damn....I need to be maybe 5-10 years older, buy a house, marry some lady, and have some rugrats. This BS where single male drivers are overcharged is nonsense. It should be based on the individual's record, not the "statistics" of an age group. That's only a bit more than I'm paying for full coverage, PER MONTH!!!! And up until I found this company, that was the cheapest one around, including both small time and big time companies.

Simply put, insurance companies don't like doing business in Texas because of your court system. That also allows Texas-based insurers with weaker financial strength to start up and do business within that state. AIG is the largest insurer in this country and one of the largest in the world. If they won't write private auto insurance in Texas, that should tell you something about your courts.

I would stay with a stable, well financed insuance company even if it cost a little more. I would want them to be there if I ever needed it.

Yup, insurance companies make generalizations about you that would be highly offensive in just about any other venue. About the only way they DON'T discriminate is in racism (if they could get away with it I bet they'd say, "hey china-man, yer gun' havta fork out a bit more green there buddy... we know about your kind"), but they have no problem with assuming you are irresponsible because of your age, no issues with sexism, hell even your favorite color can determine how safe of a driver you are.

Its complete and total crap. Everyone should pay the same and adjustments only made by the region, anual mileage, vehicle use, and your prior history.

For some reason though, I will suddenly "see the light" and become safer when my birthday comes around and my insurance premium is adjusted. And if I "forget" to wear a condom and pop out a kid, I am also definitely more responsible.

Insurance companies don't like Texas because we haven't been bullied into accepting that bs tort reform limit crap like alot of other states. (At least, at the time of my settlement, it still hadn't gone through). They don't like the idea of not having a cap on a settlement. While I agree there should be some resonable limits on some items, we shouldn't be forced to accept preset limits on EVERYTHING. For example - If it does, (by now, has?), go through, the lose of one eye in a wreck would only be worth about 2500. What kind of bs is that. My eye is worth a hell of a lot more than that, especialy when you consider potential for a lifetime of lost earnings if you can't contine your career because of that (ie: truck drivers, leos, firefighters, pilots, etc).

But, I digress........

From what I've found so far, they appear to actually be a Calif based insurance company, but operate in about 80% of states. While the auto insurance division has only been organized since '97, their other insurance fields have been around a decent amount of time, (albeit non-internet based).
Think about 21st Century. They havent been around as long as alot of the big boys, and they only insure 8 (I think) western states. Yet, they have an excellent track record. If they would write in Texas, I'd go back to them in a heartbeat.

And 1500/year is more than just a little bit, (at least to my civil servant pay....lol)

I'm not sticking up for this company, as I haven't even agreed to let them be my carrier. I just want to get all the facts.
--And I'm not trying to be an a** to you Cajun. I respect your opinions. You've been around longer than me, and always give good info. (Besides, your occupation gives you a differnt perspective than most of us....lol).
