Anyone use an EZ Pass?
I got one and they want me to bolt it to the font of my Vette because it won't work through the windshield.
I thought maybe I'd just stick it out the window going through the toll gate.
Anyone have experience with this?
They sent it to me because they said the Vette is on a list of cars in which the regular unit won't work.

Reason: Additional info
I have the windshield-mount type and I refuse to mount it (UGLY from the outside even if it did work there). I flash it out the window as I pass the booth.
Ok I did some research into this, the reason that EZ PAss claims it will not work with some vehicles [read ALL GM vehicles] is the solar ray tinting in the glass GM uses. I have a good friend at GM who is in fleet sales and uses EZ Pass almost daily, he has always mounted inside the vehicle and never had a problem. He named one exception vehicle but it was a late 90's minivan. Truth is if you get it up high enough it is not terrible from the outside. Just make sure the top edge of the unit is below the black bar. ALSO, www.ezclip.com sells a suction cup mounted holder for the EZ pass for 5.95 + 1$ shipping. Leave the suction cups ont he windshield [they are clear] and just put the pass up when you actually are near the tollbooth. Hope this helps, I was very hesitant too, also the suction cup holder means you can just go back and forth between your vehicles with one pass instead of getting multiple.
Same problem. You could just rest it on top of your speedometer when you go thru or hang it out the window.I missed a few tolls that way though.I finally ended up attaching it to the front plate, looks ugly but I only keep it on in the summer when I cruise to the Jersey shore.

I've had one of the front plate ones, mounted behind my MagRed plate cover, and it still didn't work. Not sure if it was the MagRed paint, or something else. The front plate thing will install under the plate cover, so it is hidden. Just didn't work for me.
I have also tried to mount the normal EzTag on the upper/unseen part of the windshield in 2x Corvettes and neither has worked at all the toll plazas. Another 'vette owner has mounted theirs directly behind the inspection/license plate sticker on the windshield and that worked. Not sure if you have those in your state, but that might work.
So now, I just hand hold mine to the middle of the windshield as I drive thru each plaza. To make it easier to grip, I mounted one of the plastic zip ties with a zip tie adhesive mount to the tag. The loop is big enough for my finger to slip in. Makes it real easy.
I have the pass velcroed to the windshield of my Chevy truck with no problems. I have been too lazy to get the velcro for my vette so I just lay it in the defroster vents (as I approach the tolls) and I haven't missed a toll yet. Actually I forgot to pick it up once and it registered from the passenger seat. I would definitely try the inside route before mounting that piece on the front.
Used mine a few times cheating (although I now understand you CAN use it in more than 1 car) and had no problem. I simply placed it on the dash (it did slide, but I DID NOT use Armor All!!! ).
I did place it close to the front of the dash, but again, no problem!
Took mine to the test center and told the technician I didn't want this ugly pos visible. He got in the passenger seat and had me drive through their test rig a couple of times while he positioned it around the interior. Finally, we mounted it in the far upper, right corner "behind" the tinting (and away from the windshield radio antenna). No problems so far.
Before that, Orlando area tolls used the ground sensor types. Mounted mine with the standard issue double-sided tape to the frame cross rail behind the radiator. The tape held way too good.

I hold up the tag to the window every time I drive through, never had a problem. Haven't gotten around to ordering the new velcro strips to hold it up. You should have no problem.
No problem with mine, in fact I have a holder that I got from a local car wash. The EZ pass device slides into it and it has a small suction cups on each side so I can transfer it from one car to another.
When I lived in Houston a couple of years ago, mine was velcro'ed to the top of the windshield behind the rear view. Switched it between pickup truck and Vette until they sent me a nasty letter about switching vehicles. Not supposed to do it there. Never had a miss.
:mad :mad :mad :mad This is insane!!!
Here we are, willing to give them access to our credit cards - assuring them of payment - letting them know that we have a need for their services (sic??) - and then they work to make it difficult for us?
They act like they're doing us a favor. Perhaps they are. We would have to deal with the surly people who have issues with : people in "low" cars - people who are in a hurry - people who want to talk - people who don't want to talk - and people who know that they have the potential to earn over $70,000 per year for taking our money.
And they want to make it difficult for us to avail ourselves of a "service" that would be of convenience to US?
Get in line, sheep, it's a long trail to the barn! :mad :mad :mad
(Oops, guess I should have labeled this as a rant!!)
As others have said, just leave it in your car. when you pass through the toll, make sure it's sitting on the dash and you'll be fine. whoever told you that it will not work from inside the car is wrong. if you don't use it frequently, i wouldn't use the velcro mounts because they're unattractive when viewed from the outside. I use my EZPass about 3-4 times per month and have never had a problem.
