Default rear end leak

I"m getting GM to pay for my rear end leak but I just put 1200 miles on the car last weekend on a trip to Canada and the rear end showed nothing leaking. I made an appointment for next week to do the repair.Would anyone not do the repair because it's not leeking right now?

There is a breather on the tranny so that might be the leak you noticed. Not really a leak. But take it in and have them check the fluid level and make sure it's not leaking. If it is the seal it should still be leaking I would think. I am sure the others will chime in with their opinions. Keep us posted.

I would still take it in and have them check it out. If you noticed fluid coming out, it should be checked over.

I noticed a similar problem on my 2000 A4 this weekend. There was a small dab of liquid (~3/4 inch in diameter) near the rear of the car. I touched the liquid and could tell it was oily. I looked around the garage floor and noticed spots where liquid had dripped previously and dried up. I put a newspaper under the car and have been checking it the last couple of days and there is no evidence of a leak. Since I don't drive the car on a daily basis, my theory is that the leak occurs only after the car has been driven.

My records show that the axle seal was replaced at 6700 miles; the car has 10900 miles on it now.

Is this normal or should I have it checked out?

had a similar problem. leak was from the seal. also only noticed it after the car had been driven, would stop ~1 hr from when the car was stopped. cost me about a grand to have the seals redone, tranny sounds and feels much better now though. plus no leak.
