About two days ago, the display on my automatic climate control started getting dimmer. Now, the display is so dim that it's barley legible. The climate control function works fine. Anybody else encounter this problem? If so, what's wrong?
Start watching the parts for sale or ebay. It's a goner. I haven't had the problem but read that once the readout goes you just have to replace it. Can't explain why but the do go out occassionally. Not cheap from the dealer, so I would shop used. I've had mine out to install XM radio and it's not tough.
Good Luck!
when i had my 98, it was the same thing. i didn't even notice it was dim until one day it was 100 degrees out, and that "1" lit up so freakin bright...

Others have reported this problem too. About the only fix I have heard about is to get a new unit. Check with Gene at the KarShop in Florida for prices on a good used one.

Got the new/used unit from Gene at Karshop today. Install was a piece of cake, less than 1/2 hour. Of course, after installing the gauge bezels (thanks, Johnno,) I had previous experience.
GM should be sued for price gouging. $1K for a new unit and 2.5 hours for a GM tech to install it is outrageous
