Too rice?
Rear Spoilers
If it creates no downforce, it's rice. If it creates downforce, but isn't matched with extra downforce in the front, it's rice.
Decals
Race cars have decals that represent sponsors. If you have manufacturer stickers on your car, but you aren't sponsored, and never will be, it's rice.
Blue headlights
If they're halogen, it's rice for two reasons. Blue puts out less light than white lights. Blue is the color associated with HID lights.
Lowering
This can be done to coil springs by cutting the spring without reforming the end of the spring. This can also be done to any car if it's lowered with being realigned.
Racing seats
Non-adjustable buckets are part of a safety package used on all race cars. If they're installed on a street car without the rest of the safety package (harness bar or rollbar/cage, harness), then it's rice.
Ground Effects body kits
They look like they have better aerodynamic properties, but most are much worse than the factory body. You can easily spot this if the rocker panels extend out directly behind the front wheels, and if the rear bumper hangs low. Both of these things block air from escaping, causing LIFT.
Fat exhaust tips
A 4" tip on an exhaust that's 2 inches in diameter does NOTHING but make farting zipper sounds. A fat exhaust tip is supposed to be a hint that the exhaust has been upgraded, not that you found a way to chrome and mount a coffee can to your muffler.
Fake aero
Stock Vette's and Firebirds have fake intake ducts in the front bumper. I hate it. I try to give GM some credit by telling myself that they did this to save money, but still make it easy for racers to utilize these like with the Vararam ram air system.
Vented hoods that are sealed don't allow heat to escape, or reduce lift, but they do make the hood much harder to wax. The F-bodies have these. RICE!
The side scoops on Mustangs are fake. Ack!
Bolt-in rollbars
This is another race car safety device that's being implemented incorrectly. No track I know of would allow a bolt-in to pass tech, and they don't hold harness shoulder straps as well as a well made harness bar. Rollbars and cages must be welded to the frame.
Brake Rotors
Most aftermarket rotors are rice. It's true that slotted and drilled rotors can improve braking, but most rotors are made incorrectly, and end up breaking instead of braking. Upsized rotors are usually rice too. A bigger rotors can enhance brake cooling due to increase surface area and vanes, but more often it's only visual, and even hurts braking because of the increase in rotational mass.
Fake carbon fiber
If it's used on a non-performance part, it's merely a visual mod, like paint, so it's not rice. If it's done to indicate that something like the hood is a lighter carbon fiber component, then it's rice. The Z16 has a carbon fiber decal, but strangely enough it really is a carbon fiber hood, just not the pretty carbon fiber that we're used to. Any carbon fiber hood that's either sealed or truly vented, and weighs less than the stock hood is not rice. Less weight is good.
Badges
Is your car a Z06, Type R, GT-R, or SS? Does it really have VTEC? If the answer is "no", then the badges don't belong on the car.
Fog lights
Most fog lights are worthless, and are less effective than brighter headlights would be, or create less visibility.
You ever see people using fog lights when there's not any fog around!
Driving lights are for driving, fog lights are for fog. There are some things that people call rice really aren't:
-- bumper mesh/screens
-- paint jobs to include stripes and painting brake calipers
-- real carbon fiber body components IF they weigh less than stock
-- rear spoilers IF matched with additional front downforce
-- scoops and vents that work
-- blue headlights that really are brighter (HID or high wattage bulbs)
-- bumper lights with a narrow beam angle....those are called "driving lamps"
-- big tach's. Sure they are incredibly huge, and often on slow cars, but they do work. Stock tachs are lazy, so it's not hard to get something better.
-- vinyl is simply a substitute for an expensive & laborious paint job

Carbon fiber to reduce weight is marginally acceptable. Carbon fiber for looks is rice.

...now do you also have an unabridged definition list for "obsessed"
BTW I cant see the pictures either without DNS changes...
...any pics anyone...
