[Z06] Very disappointed
Yet, even at retail, I don't think you're looking at much more than low $30s with a knowledgeable buyer. Brand new 04s are down to $39K. That probably puts 03s in the mid-$30s ($35-37K). So, I know that this is not a very popular opinion around here, but I don't see you getting more than the low $30s ($32-$34K) for an 02, even with low mileage, unless you have some good mods or you are lucky enough to find a buyer who hasn't done their homework. Good luck.
If you can find a 04' for 39k I will gladly buy another one
Also remember, than any time you are selling your car to a dealer you are not going to get a good price. He has to mark it up and sell it someone else. In other words, you will get only wholesale.
Umm, doesn't that say $44,835???

Z06?
I see that they do not show a base z06 in the offers - but I am sure that they would deal in kind for one.
It comes as no surprise to me that C5's are selling at fire-sale prices - and that this would push the market for used cars lower - not sure what the commotion is about.
Still awesome cars - eat 'em up folks!

so yes, tr/mr is a tough to find combo in a new '04 z!
i'm very happy with the deal i got, and it's within 1-2k of the rock bottom prices to be had if you search far & wide and agonize about it. i wasn't going to do that since i had already sold my car and wanted to enjoy a new z this summer, so i made an offer to my local dealer based on the best forum dealer price, and the local guy came real close to matching it (i also got my previous c5 from him, so they were interested in repeat business). i understand he's gotta make a few bucks profit, and hey, i want that dealer to be around when i have to go in for warranty work...
thanks gmac for the 0% financing! when you opt for the 0% financing, you lose the current $4k factory cash incentives, by the way. only incentive left is what you negotiate with the dealer. most will move around 6-8k off msrp right now. if you walked in with a check to buy outright, however, you're looking at anywhere from 45-48k out the door (incl tax, title, etc).
by the way, the dealer i bought my car from also had a $10k "market adjustment" markup on a commemorative z in the showroom. i just laughed to myself, figure somebody's gonna get hosed. what they lost with me will be made up with the sap who pays that fee. given they're down the street from a ferrari/aston martin/lambo dealer, somebody impulsive with a big checking account probably won't care if he/she has gotta have a new commemorative z. ahh, pity the uninformed consumer...

I really had no expectation of any resale value when I bought my Z new car, so I won't be disappointed irrespective of what I sell it for. An alternative for you might be to buy a really cheap car and invest the difference. This way you will often end up with more money than what you started with.
Look at the price of new '04's. Currently $4000 rebates, and even this web forum says dealers will sell a new '04 at invoice (or less) in addition to the rebates. Do the math! Then take a look at MaxiePrice for example, and look at the great deals you can get on a brand new '04! ($12,000 under MSRP). Why would anyone buy a used '03 or earlier model for the same price! ANY used earlier models will naturally go for much less....So we have to be realistice when selling a used '03 or earlier model.
I checked with a friend who is in the wholesale market and because of the steep discounts they are putting on new ones the bottom basically fell out and it is definitely a buyers market. He said they are going for $27- $29g at the auction even with low miles and a good history.
Carmax here had 5 vettes on their lot. They did offer more than any local dealer ($29500). The best offer from any Chevy dealer was $29 and the low was $27. Surprisingly the more they asked for the new ones the more they would give on the used one and vice versa.
As you can see below from Kerbeck's web site this puts in perspective.
By the way I received 0 responses to my print adds and 1 response on all the different forums. I asked $34 at first and lowered it to $33 negotiable...didn't help.
The nicest thing about all this is I picked up my new Z16 from Kerbecks Friday afternoon with a measely $12500 discount. Less than what I paid for my '02 and drove it back home with a very large smile on my face. It does ride different than the 02 and the seats feel better. Oh, and that Lemans Blue sure is pretty.
I guess I was amazed how fast it went down in value because my first vette sold for what I bought it for 4 years later. It was a '80 and that car looked good but performance wise it sucked.

I agree. It is amazing how fast the car market can change. From information I got from my friend who is involved with the used car market, he said most dealers call the auctions and see what is going on "real time" That is why he said the NADA and Blue book are just a guide. Because they want to be sure if that car doesn't sell they can run it to the auction and at least cover their cost and make a few dollars.

yes and the Commemorative package is about $4000 more, so if you want me to do the math for you, the non commemorative editions are around $39-$40k.... that is assuming that you already own a GM product and can get in on the loyalty discount.
jeeeezzzz.....
just my .02 cents.
