I took my '02 Z to Carmax for an appraisal and they only offered $29500 for it with 8500 miles, garage kept and in perfect condition. Everybody says Carmax pays more for cars than other dealers, but I think thats only true if they run on rice.

That price sucks! They are selling the Z's for $37k. I looked at one that was an 02 with 25k miles for $37 and it had the wrong size tires on the rims and one of the rims had an odd chunk taken out of it.
When I called the Carmax in Naperville, IL. to see if they had any Corvettes available, there answer was what is a Corvette. They have the mental level of a dogrun.
Most any dealer will offer you WHOLESALE on your car. If you want RETAIL then sell it yourself.
Yet, even at retail, I don't think you're looking at much more than low $30s with a knowledgeable buyer. Brand new 04s are down to $39K. That probably puts 03s in the mid-$30s ($35-37K). So, I know that this is not a very popular opinion around here, but I don't see you getting more than the low $30s ($32-$34K) for an 02, even with low mileage, unless you have some good mods or you are lucky enough to find a buyer who hasn't done their homework. Good luck.

The only number that REALLY matters is what a private individual will give you for the car. That's the car's real worth to you.
Any business thinks about the loan or bare minumum value of a car, they don't seem to recognize niche cars. I have been offered $38,000 for my ten year old car for example, but the blue book is probably more like $20,000 or less. With a regular car like a Taurus or something you would be out of luck when the time comes to sell, but with a niche car the value tends to stay higher.

I just bought an 02 EB Z06 here in Dallas for 32,000 with 31k on the clock. I thought I'd let you know how the market is. Oh yea, I got it from a Nissan dealership. The Z was a one owner, very clean and very well taken care car.
This my 3rd Vette and by far the very best. I gotta say I love driving this car! Know I see what all the hype is about these cars. Very well balanced and a bute to boot......
I'd say that's pretty good evidence of the market. I also saw a post just yesterday where someone alluded to buying their 04 Z for $39.5K. Sorry. It's a great car and I love it. In fact, mine is in the shop right now getting some nice mods done. But, it is definitely a buyer's market right now.
