Default ZO6 Suspension Vs. T1

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I still not to sure on this. I am just wondering the pros and cons of both and wich one is the best. It looks like I am going to have to sell my Z06 and get a 99-00 FRC. So I want something that will handel good as or preferably better than my 04 ZO6. Also what kind of brakes would be best to put on it.

Thanks

T1 is better if you are going to track the car, and Baer 6-piston brakes are probably the best although they are pricey (2-3K)

Thanks man. Dose the T1 give you a better feel of the road. Also how is it on the street for moderate driving.

T1 is full race, it will knock your fillings out, what do you mean by handle better? When I was new to road racing I had a pro blow by me in a Merc station wagon diesel with snow tires, did that car handle better than my Z06? No.

The Z06 is as fast or faster on road courses than all the other exotics and dedicated semi-race cars. Are you going to be in some SCCA class? Also, our brakes are awesome, unless you are going to be racing longer than 20 minutes or so, then you would need to upgrade.

Road feel has more to do with the adjustments of your suspension than the hardware.

Have you been over to the roadracing section yet?

from wehat i have observed......

The T1 is too stiff for stock wheels and tires.

Your car is goign to stiffen up enough to the point that you will just slid the tires. There isnt enough grip to ever get the suspension to move and work liek its supposed too.

If you plan on using a racing tire of sticky tire on the road course...

then yes i say go for it.

Keep in mind the stock z06 suspension is about maxed out (* in my opinion and a good many others)

It is about as stiff as you can go, given the stock wheels and tires!

The stock stuf works WELL.

Thats why the car handles for the most part better than about any other production car out there.

including cars that cost 10 times as much.

Dont mess up a good thing!

i lowered mine some and left it alone.

IMO!!!!!

Well I love my ZO6 and the way it feels, but I am having to sell it. I am going to be getting a FRC and I want it to be comprable or better than my current one. So I would be better off buying the ZO6 parts and putting on it.

thanks

I wouldn't want to drive a car with a T1 suspension on the street, especially where I live in the land of winter and road repairs.

I'm sure that you can do a few things to tighten up the suspension on the FRC like add different sway bars, a different set of shocks, etc. I certainly wouldn't go as stiff as a T1 set up though.

I personally love the T1's on my Coupe. It makes the car handle as it should and coupled with the Edelbrock IAS shocks the ride is great. I'm sure the Z06 sways are nice as well, but my neighbor with a Z thinks mine handles better than his and I for one have to agree. Good luck with your decision.

Do you have just the T1 sway bars? I was referring to the full T1 suspension as a package.

Your roads are pretty good out in Utah, aren't they?

There's no question that the T1 suspension will handle better. The Z06 suspension should be more compliant though for rough roads.

Sorry, I do only have the T1 sways, Edelbrocks, and wider rubber than a Z all around. This has been a very simple and effective setup. IMO I think you should go this route, and add the connector plate that connects the frame at various points underneath the car. This would probably be the best compromise for your suspension needs. To answer your questions the roads here in Utah are horrible with construction going on pretty much everywhere. Best of luck with your mods.

My opinion, having used the full T1 suspension on the track, and on the street.
I like a stiff car and don't mind the feel of the T1 suspension on the street, but...
- Do you really need it? As others above have said, the stock Z06 suspension is great as it is unless you are into serious track/DE type events.
- The metal to metal heimlinks on the T1 sway bars are noisy and bother the heck out of me. If my car was a daily driver, I would change them out.
- The T1 suspension sits lower than stock which may have an impact on daily driveability

Unless you really want to go fast on the track, I'd save a ton of cash and buy some used Z06 parts for your FRC.

I love my LGM Wilwood six piston calipers which are 1299.00 I just ran them at Pocono yesterday. Turned a 131.67? which is fast. I think it was the fastest lap of the weekend out of 200 cars. They work great.

Suspension is a tuff ? I love a T-1 type suspension but you may not. I suggest getting a ride in someones car would has it even if you have to travel a bit.

Yeah I think riding in some ones car that has the T-1 would be the best way to see how it is. I think there might be one guy around here with it. I am now thinking of just keeping my Z06. But would still like to do some suspension mods to it maybe. Exhaust is first though.

From all that I've read out here, racing mods are rarely a good idea for the street. Massive Baer disks look cool, but don't necessarily stop any better than stock under normal conditions unless you've got stickier-than-stock tires. And a T1 suspension is designed to work at the limit, not at 35 mph. IMHO, if you have to go back to a "regular" Vette, go with a urethane bushings kit and upgraded springs and shocks. Vette Brakes & Suspension has a full kit with Bilsteins for $2000 that's designed for "advanced street" or showroom stock. Or save money and go for just the Bilsteins and a new front spring for $850. That will give you a feel between the stock setup and the harsh Z-51 setup.
