I know of a guy that had the oil changed in his Grand Prix (I think) and teh oil cap was set on the strut tower. Then the hood was shut on it and it it caused a bulge in the hood
I know what you're saying about expecting an oil change to be done correctly. But, I tend to check behind them, as was suggested. You have to remember, in any shop, the low-man on the totem pole is the oil changer, and/or the tire buster.
I'll also throw my torque wrench in the trunk if I know the wheels must be removed for any reason. (Not talking Corvette, but on my GTP in particular.) I'll re-torque the wheels before I leave their parking lot to avoid warping my rotors on the way home. 5 minutes of ****-retentiveness will save you a bunch of trouble down the road... And, who cares what the shop thinks? I'm the customer
The oil changing tech probably has 25 to 30 caps sitting on his oil changing tech tool box. Or maybe he uses them for XMAS tree oriments.
In any event that is total

find a private mechanic who will love your
vette or you will continue to have problems.
You are just $$$$ to GM!
You're not overreacting. Seems like event he simplest of tasks are difficult for JoJo the Monkey Boy service tech. You're lucky the LS1 has a long oil fill tube and your oil didn't blow out like it did with someone I know.
I also check under my hood and go over everything they touched before I leave a dealer (which I only bring for necessary work). Here are some things I've experienced:
Open hood and find tranny dipstick lying on top of engine (not the C5).
Need a locking washer replaced (fell off) from headlight assy that conects motor to headlight. I get the car back, look for new washer and it's not there. JoJo was stumped.
Bring C5 in for first ever waranty repair to replace torn weather strip on body under rear of roof panel. Not only does JoJo not install it correctly, but decides to drill a few new holes into the body because the screws didn't line up with the existing holes (uhhh.... maybe because he didn't install it correctly ).
Minor one, but brought it in for a faulty rad cap that wasn't breaking vacuum. JoJo decides to also replace the upper rad hose (claimed the vacuum make have weakened it, but I think it was to get more $$ from GM for the service vs. just replacing a rad cap). I get the car back, and the air filter lid is not locked down (intake was removed to install rad hose).
Bottom line, No JoJo!! JoJo is Bad!
