I was thinking about getting a flush fit rear spoiler from Midamerica for my roadster. I finally started looking for a place to do the work and I was shocked at how much people were asking to paint a piece of fiberglass and bolt it to a car! Maybe I've been going to the wrong places or maybe it's just the Corvette tax. I've been hitting up body shops and and they've been asking $600-800 to paint and install it! Would places that specialize in aftermarket mods be cheaper?
Where would you recommend I look, and how much do you think I should expect to pay? If anyone has any recommendations of a shop in the CA bay area, please let me know.
I've got a Caravaggio rear spoiler at the shop right now being painted. It the same place that painted my hood and a few other things so the know I demand perfection. I'm having some other stuff painted at the same time but the real spoiler itself broke down to costing $100 to prep, paint and clear coat. I am doing the install myself so I'm not real sure what that should normally cost.
Keep in mind though, the Caravaggio spoiler mounts with double-sided tape. If you get the other kinds that have to be bolted on then that could obvioulsy result fairly high installation costs especially if the rear fascia has to be removed to do the "bolt on".
As mentioned above the Caravaggio rear spoiler attaches with 2 sided tape. THAT alone has some advantage over one that bolts on. The Caravaggio then can be removed if ever needed.
Also, if you have not bought the spoiler yet, I recommend you take a look at the Caravaggio BEFORE you buy any.
Here's one picture of mine.
I think I know which one you are probably talking about from Mid America. It is similar but in my opinion not as nice. The Caravaggio lays lower and its a nicer fit.

That does seem rather high for just a spoiler. Maybe expand your search to other body shops and see what they charge. Unless you can do it yourself, the cost may be a little high for a bolt on.
I have the greenwood c5r spoiler and it cost me 500 for installation and everything. It's a bolt on and looks really good I think. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/635190
Wow, that spoiler looks really nice too. I haven't ordered mine yet. Any other pics? How much did it cost and where did you get it from?
Here are links to some more pictures of my Caravaggio Rear Spoiler.
It cost $125 to prep and paint and can be installed yourself (with the help of 2 friends suggested) It's on the car with 3M double sided tape. It's not budging, BUT could if you ever wanted, be removed from the car without leaving a trace.
I am sure you could have it installed too for $100 or less.
