Default Upholstery Carpet-Like Material

I was sick and tired of the limited center console room, and built a box to sit either on or behind the "wall" of my cargo area. It's kind of a catch-all tray. It spans the entire width of the area, is 5 inches front-to-back, and 3.5 inches tall. Problem is I can't seem to find that carpet-like material to upholster it with. You know, the kind of material that looks and feels like carpet, but is thinner in backing that is used for speaker boxes. Not the felt stuff, the more coarse stuff.

I called auto part stores, and even went to fabric stores. The car stero stores told me to call fabric stores. Nada.

Anybody got any ideas of what kind of store would carry something like that?

TIA

I found the basic stuff at Pep Boys out here. Was cheap and black as the stock interior...

Yeah, Home Depot or Lowes. You will find it on the big rolls with the rest of the carpet !! You will probably have to buy more than you need but it is pretty inexpensive stuff.

Thanks to all who've replied. I found out that my local Home Depot only carries gray, but my local Lowe's carries the black. Too bad I couldn't find any to match my light oak interior. I used the black, and because the light oak color scheme contains black, as well, it worked out great!

Here is another box that you can make.

Radar1 made this one and has plans on his website about half way down the page.

for those who are unable to build this box, check out Kewl sport tray. Very similar design and looks nice in my car. Little pricey but well made.
