Default Which C5 is best?

Bought a 97 a few months back, found a pretty heavy repair history on it although now after an ABS module and column lock fix it's doing good. Now its time to get one for the finally convinced better half...
Has anyone researched the most reliable year of the C5, or is it take your pick, take your chances?

By the way, my extended warranty paid for itself with the ABS/Trac control fix.

The 2001 model year had a substantial number of upgrades.

Yes, that was the first year of the upgraded "high oil consumption engine"

In general, the newer the better, but in my opinion, most changes were minor so you're better off with an older one (although low mileage) and put the extra cash into reserves...ymmv.

The best one is the one you've got parked outside. . .

True about the 2001 model year - mine eats oil compared to 99 one I had before. But it still does not use much. Really.

They are all good, but I like my '00. Relatively inexpensive anymore and still has all the goodies available.

The General made improvements every year. So, the latest model should have fewer problems. No year was "bad". Great bang for your buck.
