I called Tire rack about purchasing some Bridgestone S-02 tires, they didnt recommend that a 285/30zr/18 would fit on the rear 18 inch OEM polished 5 stars? Can anyone tell me if it is possible? They said it may work but the rim was a little less in width than what the tire recommended?
I hope you're intending to use them on the front of the car, as that is an awfully short tire, only 24.9" tall.
The store is right, the S02 285/30/18 is recommended for a 10-11" wide wheel. You could probably physically sqeeze it onto a 9.5...but that doesn't make it right. Manufacturer's specify a safe range of wheel widths for a reason.
Now, before many people chime in saying they have 295's on 9.5" wheels...remember the extremely short sidewall of the 285/30 reduces the range of wheel widths it will fit. For example, a 285/40 would likely have a fitment range of 9-11", even though it's the same width tire. It has much more sidewall to flex and thus can conform and fit a narrower wheel.
