Default Who deserves a Corvette?

You have wanted a corvette since you can remember. You have drooled over them every time you saw one. You now own one and have at least one heart attack a day, "its dirty, did that hit my car?, walk around inspections before getting in, dont you dare step on my door sills, dont lean against my car!, a life long grin, when driving either hard or crusing you know that your driving heritage." These are the people that "deserve a Corvette". Then there are those that havent had the awe of the corvette, dont care if its clean, went and bought one to impress someone, constantly complain about something. Well, I met one of these "people" yesterday. Pulled along side me @ a store. He got out and slammed his door after slamming the tilt wheel up. I waited until he came out and i said hi. I mentioned what a nice day it was for a drive and that started it. His parents bought the car for him...., it was filthy inside and out, wheels had more brake dust on them then the pads. He was mad due to the fact that he got beat by a rustang that was very well built. He called the car a pos, said that he wouldnt own one ever again. I attempted to get him to understand that when years go on that rustang owner will have just that, " a rustang that has been thrashed, what he will have will be a classic Corvette". To these type of Corvette owners I say " You do not deserve this car, and also the car doesnt deserve you"! Get out of the car and let someone that understands the meaning of a Corvette have it. Get yourself a car that has meaning for you. But dont take a car with the stature of the Corvette and demean it with stupid reasons, mistreat it like a red headed step child, and dont sit there and condemn it because you "lost" to a rustang, or ricer or what ever. If anyone went up to one of these other car owners with their pink slips and asked if they wanted to trade, I'm 99% sure that they would part with their cars in a new york second. To all on this forum, I appologise for this long thread and my ranting but this got my blood boiling.

I still remember years ago when I was in school and my dad bought me a brand spankin new RX7. The year was 1994 and I had the same attitude. Years passed.... I graduated and worked hard and both my vettes were bought by me with my own hard earned money.... My attitude changed somewhat but I still drive it like I stole it So chill....dont loose your sleep over it... give him sometime and he should be alright

I'm afraid that I disagree. A Corvette is a car, not a religion. As far as who "deserves" one, I bought it, I paid for it, it's mine. End of story. Don't get me wrong, I like my car a lot and I do keep it clean and am careful in parking lots, but I don't go jump off the cliff if it gets water spots or if it gets a ding.

I don't think I'd appreciate a lecture from a Corvette owner or anyone else for that matter.

Who cares what anyone else thinks or does with their car. I love MY car and take care of it - isn't that all that matters?

A corvette can be many different things to different people. Some use theirs for long trips (cruise the country), while others rarely take theirs out of the garage (investment, collectors car). Whatever the reason is for having it, may or may not determine how it is taken care of. The personality of the owner determines that. I have a brother-in-law who religiously washes his car no matter what kind of car he currently owns, while a neighbor of mine hardly ever washes his BMW. A nice car is a nice car and should be treated as such, especially a corvette. A corvette, in my opinion, should be treated with respect, not idolized.
My corvette is kept clean because I am proud to own one, and it is something I have saved for and longed for since 1964. I take it short hops and longer cross country trips. Bugs, stone chips, etc. are a nuisance, but, they happen. Its a car, albeit a nice car...a great car. I just love to drive it! To listen to it! To be seen in it!
Oh yeah, its time for a ride...see ya.

An automobile is basically transportation. Some people use it strictly for that purpose. Others esteem it for its beauty, performance, or image. Many cars fit the category, but Corvette fills it competely for many of us. That's why we are offended when the Breed has not been appreciated. We look at the Vette as something that we have earned.

I love my corvette and try to keep it spotless, but that cant always be.I wash it at least once a week and if time permets I wash it 2 or 3 times a week when I can.I have always kept all my cars clean since I started driving no matter what I was driving and I have driven some ugly cars in my time. Its sad to see a vette extremly dirty and that is rare. Some people couldn't care less about a car,I work with several peple that say they havent washed their ride in over a year and it shows. To each his own I guess.Just put another coat of Zaino on this morning and cleaned up my old Suburban.

yeah but it aggravates me to no end to see people who don't take care of things, cars, houses etc. It tells me that they can't afford it and probably bought it for the wrong reasons.

I agree that its a shame when people don't take care of nice things. However, to reserve that sentiment simply for a Corvette is, well, silly. Now, if it was an XK120 or a SS100 that might be different...

I feel your pain! When someone who doesn't really know what they are talking about, starts to tell everyone else that something is what it's not. Lack of experience, and the fact that it was given to him, contributes to his lack of respect for the car.

I am NOT religious! But I care for my Corvette religiously!

I have seen many trashed C5s. I just tell myself that each time one is trashed it makes mine just a tiny bit more valuable!

Even though it may be very distasteful to Vette enthusiasts, if someone puts down the $$ to buy a Vette I guess its there right to do with it what they like (within legal limits of course).

I've owned eleven Corvettes over the last thirty years and do love them, even with all the that comes along with Corvette ownership, so I kinda consider myself a Corvette enthusiast.

BUT, on the other hand, they are just cars...great cars...but still just cars.

My current FRC is a daily driver, so it gets dirty from time to time since I don't always have the opportunity to clean it every second of the day...sometimes it'll stay dirty for a week while I'm working.

So I don't exactly chit my pants every time a bug hits it or dust gets on it or if the rain grub has filthied it's tail. When I get time...I clean it.

If you were to catch me on a day that it happens to be dirty and start giving me some chit about Corvette ownership...then you're not gonna like my response back.

It's the kid's car...he can do what he wants with it and ya shouldn't sweat it. There's worse things in life to worry about then whether or not some stranger "deserves" his Corvette.

In a free society, I don't know that we should try to impose our beliefs and standards on other people who are unwilling to accept them. This goes for religion, politics, morals, and car care.

As long as the kid waves at other Corvettes when he passes them on the road, I could care less if his Vette is clean...
