To each his own. I've seen plenty of teens get exotic cars from their parents; supras, M3's etc. Not one of them has a clue about the hard work required to buy such vehicles, and it's unlikely they ever will. That's just a fact of life. Accept it.
Look at the bright side, maybe the kid will get tired of his vette and his mommy and daddy will buy him a rustang.
Yes, I understand it is a car. I guess what really got under my skin was the fact that his complete attitude was poor to say the least. If I had my car bought for me then "I" would take care of it the same as now. Understand its limitations, and be just as happy with having one. Not every person can find the ways to buy one. So with this said, I believe he was a spoiled brat that probably gets anything he wants from dad. His actions yesterday showed. I'm happy I grew up different, and do respect and care for what others take for granted.
...ok, the you dont derserve it because your parents bought it comment is starting to wear old.
.. some of us who are lucky enough to have it paid by somebody else dont deserve it? and because I cant always have it sparkling clean (my driveway is a dirt road) because I'm too busy with other things, helping my dad with something, school, etc. somehow I have to justify my ownership, to you!? .. psssh forget you. I love my car, and that should be all there is to it.
He got out and slammed his door after slamming the tilt wheel up. His parents bought the car for him...., it was filthy inside and out, wheels had more brake dust on them then the pads. He called the car a pos, said that he wouldnt own one ever again.
The bottom line here is not the Corvette or the kid's lack of appreciation for Corvettes in general, it's that people typically don't appreciate or take care of what they didn't have to work for.
Speaking from my personal experience (I know this doesn't apply to everyone), I had to "work up" for mine. A C5 wasn't my first Vette, but it's been my goal to own one since I first saw the '97 arrive at the dealers. I've had this one for a little over a year and a half and I love it. This is my 4th Vette. I've always kept them clean & mechanically in shape. Caught in the rain .. yes. Clean it as soon as I could .. yes. Call it a pride thing. It's like winning money. If it comes too easy it goes easy. Kids that are given cars by their parents take a different view of things. The pride of ownership just isn't there. Hey, all they have to do is ask for something different, right? ....
A corvette can be many different things to different people.
Exactly! Mine is a sign (to me) of what I've accomplished. It was only 7 years ago that I lived in a single-wide mobile home parked in someone else's backyard and drove a pick up truck that cost less than $10K when it was brand new. Now, practically every day when I come home from work, I can hardly believe that this is really MY house that I'm pulling into and MY Corvette that I'm driving. It's really beyond belief for me, even though I've earned it all through my own efforts (and the grace of God). So to me, my Vette is a reward for my hard work, and I do take care of it, even though I still realize that it's just a car.
I'm afraid that I disagree. A Corvette is a car, not a religion. As far as who "deserves" one, I bought it, I paid for it, it's mine. End of story. Don't get me wrong, I like my car a lot and I do keep it clean and am careful in parking lots, but I don't go jump off the cliff if it gets water spots or if it gets a ding.
I don't think I'd appreciate a lecture from a Corvette owner or anyone else for that matter.
But the fact that you browse through the forum here tells me you care more than for just a stupid car.

While I agree with what seems to be the consenus that it's his car and he's free to do with it as he wishes - and that confronting his wishes and condeming them is wrong, I also agree that this individual apparently doesn't appreciate what he has.
I waited a very long time to buy my first Corvette. Yes, it's just a car - but to me it's my dream. My car is kept as clean as possible always. I drive it every chance I get, and I treasure my 98 as much or more than the guy driving a $300K Ferrari.
I guess the bottom line is while I might find it distasteful, I prefer to avert my eyes much as I would from a puddle of steaming vomit or a fresh pile of dog poop!
I think the bottom line is simple. The dude had no respect for something because he did nothing for it. The brat got it given to him. He does nothing to take care of it, it breaks, and blames the item?
WTF?
Take the damn thing away from him and give him nothing. He cant "not take care" of nothing.
Having owned two Corvettes, I can only say this about Corvette owners I've met.
There are those who loved them the moment they laid their eyes on one; they just knew that some day, one way or another (and usually with much sacrifice), they would HAVE to own one.
Then there are those who through fortunate circumstances within their lives, they are able to buy one and do so simply because they can. They may learn to appreciate the car, but it will never be a part of their soul.

I visit the forum because it's a shared interest and there are a lot of great people here who are quick with good advice and share a good deal of interesting information.
It's not the dedication to your car, or your hobby or whatever I object to. It's sitting in judgment of others period. I own a Corvette and take good care of it. I also own a Honda and take good care of it. Those are cars. I don't go over and rag on my neighbor because his van is dirty or walk around at car shows trying to find a an uncleaned exhaust plate so I can belittle the car's owner. In short, it's none of my business what others do with cars they own. I just choose to live my life the way I see fit and willingly grant that right to others.
I look at things this way there are some people who buy the car because they think it is a status symbol. Case in the point the VP of the company I work for he has on 02 Vert and I saw him in the morning and just asked him how he liked the vert (since I have a coupe) we had some small talk and he asked me what year I have I stated a 00 coupe, he says, "is that a C5 like mine?" After that I made myself scarce. Long story short some peiople appreciate the heritage of the car and love it for just that reason and the comraderi that goes with it. Others are clueless and say, "hey thats a cool car I'm gonna buy one" The way I look at it, I wouldn't have in depth converasation with them nor would I expect one but at least they realize the car for the basics of what it is.... A COOL CAR!!! Though in my personal opinion there really isn't a good word to describe how awesome it is!!! Long live the Legend!
"Don't It always Seem To Go That You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone
As a parent and teacher the (negative) results of giving things to kids, of substantial value will probably make their lives less rewarding. The fact that it's a Vette only makes that fact more apparent to readers of this site
You have wanted a corvette since you can remember. You have drooled over them every time you saw one. You now own one and have at least one heart attack a day, "its dirty, did that hit my car?, walk around inspections before getting in, dont you dare step on my door sills, dont lean against my car!, a life long grin, when driving either hard or crusing you know that your driving heritage." These are the people that "deserve a Corvette". Then there are those that havent had the awe of the corvette, dont care if its clean, went and bought one to impress someone, constantly complain about something. Well, I met one of these "people" yesterday. Pulled along side me @ a store. He got out and slammed his door after slamming the tilt wheel up. I waited until he came out and i said hi. I mentioned what a nice day it was for a drive and that started it. His parents bought the car for him...., it was filthy inside and out, wheels had more brake dust on them then the pads. He was mad due to the fact that he got beat by a rustang that was very well built. He called the car a pos, said that he wouldnt own one ever again. I attempted to get him to understand that when years go on that rustang owner will have just that, " a rustang that has been thrashed, what he will have will be a classic Corvette". To these type of Corvette owners I say " You do not deserve this car, and also the car doesnt deserve you"! Get out of the car and let someone that understands the meaning of a Corvette have it. Get yourself a car that has meaning for you. But dont take a car with the stature of the Corvette and demean it with stupid reasons, mistreat it like a red headed step child, and dont sit there and condemn it because you "lost" to a rustang, or ricer or what ever. If anyone went up to one of these other car owners with their pink slips and asked if they wanted to trade, I'm 99% sure that they would part with their cars in a new york second. To all on this forum, I appologise for this long thread and my ranting but this got my blood boiling.
I love my Corvette and take very well care of it. I feel your pain when I see others don't give a s..t about their Corvette. However, it is their car. So, if they want to drive their Corvette of the clip, go head.
"A Corvette is a car, not a religion. As far as who "deserves" one, I bought it, I paid for it, it's mine. End of story."
I think that for some it is a religion.....
I love cars and car enthusiasts....I had a guy follow me in a range rover into a walmart. He stopped me, because he had a C5 as well, he asked me about my borlas. It was a great experience w/ a complete stranger.
I won't loose sleep over some punk a$$ kid who doesn't deserve his vette OR the flip side. A corvette guy who doesn't drive his car. I know my car isn't an investment and I don't treat it as one.....things happen, accidents, etc... I would know...my vette is black and it gets dirty 2 seconds after it is washed....some stuff you have to let go!
As for getting smoked by a mustang? He should be pissed at himself, not his car.....
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
