Default 2004 Z06, or Wait??

There are still a few 2004 Z06's left in my area at pretty reasonable prices. I would be interested in anyone's opinion as to saving a few bucks on the '04 vs. waiting and getting the new features on the C6. Not even sure there will be another Z06 until late 2005 or even 2006. I realize this is a personal decision; just curious what you all think.

There is another similar current thread you may want to check it out ...

Seems the overwhelming opinion is Get a Z06 now while you still can as they are going fast and for great prices ! Just got mine back in June. You will not be disappointed.

You have my sympathy. I have been trying to decide for weeks whether to get an '02Z (w/ extended warranty) and delay the C6Z purchase until '08 or '09 or stick w/ my C4 (that runs great and I still look forward to driving everyday) and get the new Z in '06 or '07. Either way... its a VETTE! Have fun.

I sold my 99 this past May for a tidy profit. I had plans on rolling that profit into a 2005 C6. Then I started reading some of the actual performance specs and pricing. $50K for a car with less overall performance. I then found a pampered ultra low mileage 03 Z. Took a test drive and bought it. I save over $13K instead of buying a first year C6.

Compare the most recent road test of a 2004 Z to all the new car mags tests on the Z51 C6 then you decide

http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...es/0410htp_zo/

I'l wait for facts and photos on the C6 Z then make up my mind if I want to mod the hell out of my 03 or buy a 2nd year Z. No first years for me. GM isn't paying me to beta test their cars.

Good luck

Tom

With the price incentives I would opt for the '04, plus the fact I personally like the C5 styling over the C6.

I bought a new 04 Z in March, enjoying it for months before I would have had the o5 Vette. These are great cars, I will want to hold on to this one and look at the 06Z. Remember, there is no guarantee, that there will ever be another Z. Only kidding ! Plan on spending a lot to get a 05 Vette with all the desired, now extra cost, options. Remember too that they will really improve the C6 after the first year. Good luck in your decision..

ditto! i traded my 2000 NBM coupe in on a 04 black/mod red z06. my feeling is, and IMHO, so please - no flames, but i don't like to buy 1st year-anything-GM. saying that, my next new one will probably be a 07 or 08 next generation z06. -

I bought a low mile '02 Z06 last year and am waiting on the next Z06.

Right know, you can buy an '02 realatively cheap and its basically the same car and you will not lose as much jack when you move up to the C6. In a year or two (if history repeats itself), I doubt there will be much price difference between an '02 and an '04.

If money is not important, just buy '04 you want and wait for the Z06. Its gonna be awhile, might as well have a great car to drive!

If money's no object, spend the extra $15,000 and get .9ths the performance.

I was thinking the same thing about two months ago. I checked with some dealers which advertised the $8 - $12k savings on all Corvettes. I redid some figuring and finally settled on an '04 Z06, saving over $10k off the MSRP. The new '05 will cost more and you'll get less than a '04 Z in the long run.

Did I do the right thing? I think so. There are some features on the '05's I'm not sure I like yet and the deal was too damn good to pass up. Thanks to this forum and some phone calls, I'm happy to be in the new Z right now. Believe me, it's a big upgrade from our "orginal owner 1981"!

Pick up the Z06. Better deal. Plus I never buy any first year model beacuse there are usally bugs that still need to work out.

Good Luck. You will love the Z.

Ask this question over in C6 General and you will get totally the opposite answers.

Over there are a bunch of folks that sold their vettes and are going without for months waiting on the newest thing.

I couldn't stand it so an '04 for me

The prices now are great!
I would get a 2004 now.
Then in 2 years when the new ZO6 arrives you can decide if the increased performance is worth the cost of upgrading.

i was thinking same as you. now, however, i'm in my dream car--a new '04 torch red/mod red z, for around $6-7k less out the door than a base 1sa c6 coupe. plus i'm driving it--and have been for the past couple of months! all the c6 buyers...they get to think about their car! (i'm sure it'll be worth it though--it's all good. i just happen to like the c5 body style more) the new deals at 0% financing are unbeatable, and some guys are getting z's for $42-43k. i couldn't find one in my combo for that price, but maybe you could find a commem. z or a less hard-to-find combo for some incredible price.

this z has more capability than i will ever need or use. it's a mind boggling car, so much power, so much handling at its limits. i've already put +7 mph into my favorite 180 degree 25mph on ramp sweeper vs. my former '99 c5, and there's at least a few more mph to go. unbelievable car.

Definitely go for the 04 Z06 now. I definitely agree with the above post. I come from a superbike background (my last bike was a 2002 CBR954RR) and the handling on this car reminds me of my bike a LOT. Both can turn into a corner like they're on rails and accelerate all the way through! It's absolutely amazing to have this much handling performance out of a car, especially one so cheap!

It will still be king of corvettes for another year like someone else said, and you won't want to move up after having a Z unless it's to another Z, so definitely get the Z now and go with another Z in a few years
