those of you that decided to shorten your anteena...did you just pick out a length arbitrarily,or is there an optimum height for best reception?it is definitely too tall (would rather it slipped into the fender ala the 'vert).i understand the weight issue, but i'm more concerned about some jerkoff snapping it off in a jealous fit!!!
Go with a length you like. I cut mine longer than I wanted it so I could make more cuts and "adjust it" by making more cuts. I ended up at 14.5 inches...just about a half inch taller than the roof.
As far as optimal length.....I tried the stereo with the antenna off the car and it still got vey good reception. Try it..I was surprised. There are a few guys who have removed it completely and filled and painted the hole. Looks very They then go with some sort of internal antenna. Maybe one of them will chime in with pics.
I cut mine to about 8.5" but it needed painting and I could never get it to look right so I opted for the midamerica shorty. Save the headache and spend $20 for oem looking shorty.
I also tried the shorty NAPA kind but the rubber looked cheap.
Just my $0.02

I would think this is the best way. Cutting it short just looks like your power antenna is broke and didn't go all the way up.
Right now I have a 'cell phone style' antenna I got at autozone for $5. it's short and has a coil in it. I call it my remote control antenna
I got the same one from pep boys. I tried the Autobarn $5 rubber one and didnt like the look as its fairly thick and at cruising speed, they bend almost 90 degrees backwards.
Bought mine from one of the supporting vendors (can't remember who now), but I like it and saved me the time cutting mine down. Worth the 20 bucks IMHO.

I bought mine at Corvette Concepts. I think that Mid America buys from them.
If you like making stuff, great, but if you're trying to save $15 on an antenna for a $50K car.
