Pre Ignition Sound
I have just returned from a 5000 mile roadtrip with my 04 C5 and have discovered a new sound coming from the engine. It is sounding like pre ignition and I thought it was maybe it low octane gas so I filled up with premium at 76 and ran it and the noise is still there. It doesnt need any load to make the noise just a tap of the gas pedal. I say it sounds like pre ignition, it may not be that at all, it certainly isnt very loud. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks.

I took a ride in it and it sounds like some kind of exhaust related sound. It is a very faint "tink" "tink" sound. VSailor and I took a ride in my wife's 04' Roadster, and for sure the noise is not in her car.

Belt tensioner on right side of engine. Sounds exactly like pre-ignition.
