I have a 2002 and on a recent trip the gas guage started acting up. One monute it showed 3/8 th of a tank. The next instant is showed empty and the display indicated "low gas". My car took 14.5 galllons to fill. This is the second time this has happened. Fortunately I was not far from a gas station either time. Has anyone else had this problem?
My 98 has done this at times...usually shows empty, but I know there is more fuel than that. Usually I shut off (re-boot ) then it seems to work fine for months...then it will act up suddenly. I repeat step one
Known problem in C5s. Due to the dual senders in the two portions of the tanks, the guage is very sensitive to fuel impurities. There have been many strings on this on the forum; do a search.
As I remember, it is sensitive to the type of gas used. Many members reported good results when using only Chevron. I'd try several tanks of the best local fuel. I had the problem in my '99 when I used Shell. Switched to Chevron for the '99 and now my '02; no problems since.

Seems to be a common problem. Not happend to my '00, but had it happen to my '99. Dealer replaced the fuel sending units and all was well. You may want to try switching brands of gas or adding some Techron to the fuel.

About once every 6 months,I put a bottle of Techron in the gas and no more problems.
I had similar problems. Switched from Chevron to Mobil and the problem has gone away. I also fill my gas tank when it gets down to about 1/2 tank. Hope this helps.
Known and frustrating problem. GM blames the high sulphur content in some gasolines that corrode the fuel sensors. Try a fuel additive with Techron and try changing gasoline brands.
Mine is acting up now. It used to go back to normal, but now just goes all over the place. I just use the trip A and fill up when I get around 300 miles.
