I went out on a long drive through Wisconsin on Sunday and on the return trip I decided to just hit the cruise control and kick back for a bit. To my suprise when I flipped the switch to ON and then tried to SET the speed nothing happened. There was no info on the DIC being displayed and the process obviously did not work. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a place I can check for codes (if they exist for cruise control)? My warranty just let up last month so unfortunately I can't bring it in for free checkup/repair. Any input/experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
By the way, you'll all be happy to hear I passed about 10 vettes throughout the day that I know saw me and EVERY ONE gave a big wave.....3 generations worth too!
The GM list of why the cruise control on a Corvette won't engage is two pages long. Any number of conditions won't allow it to engage.
The most common (to me) is that you are still accelerating when you try engage it. Your speed has to be fairly constant for it to set. Another is that if your active handle is active it won't engage.
And of course, you can't engage the cruise control at speeds in excess of 165 mph.
I'd suggest that you try it again to see if it works now before taking it in to the shop.
Do a search on cruise control, there is an easy fix for it you can do yourself. It involves pushing on 2 moduals located behind the brake pedal. Happens to me every once in a while.

Hope this helps,

Thanks all, this forum is great! I tried the search but maybe I need to dig deeper in time to find an applicable post.

If your car is only a month out of warranty, you may be able to get the dealer to fix it. My dealer has done this for me as a means to keep my business. Worth a try.
Otherwise, it could be a number of factors, including a loose wire, bad cruise unit, etc.
Well, I took the car out after reading some of the posts last night as the problem was really bothering me. Well, when I got out on the road I took a look at the turn signal/CC handle and it finally struck me that I had been pressing the wrong button!!! I was simply flipping the CC switch to ON and then trying to set the cruise control by pushing that same switch one click forward which is the accelereate function. I then pushed on the correct button (the one at the end of the handle, on the crown) and the cruise control engaged successfully!!!! In my defense, I have been spending much more constant speed driving behind the wheel of my beater 2nd car (1990 Plymouth Voyager) which uses the behavior I originally performed to set the cruise. Oh well and thanks for all the input.

My dealer replaced an A/C compressor at no charge on my Chevy truck that was 2 months out of warranty. Never hurts to check.
