Newest Halltech Stinger
) on his OUTSTANDING customer service. You see, some parts were on backorder for Jim, so he shipped the Stinger for my '01 Cpe equipped it with the newest Warhead filter, which was originally designed for the C6. Jim says his testing has shown that the newest Warhead filter flows more than the previous version, or if I remember his words correctly, it "flows a heck of alot of air!"Now, for some notes on the install:
Thanks to some heads-up tips in Dave68's instructions posted on the Halltech web site, the install went even smoother than I thought it would. One thing I noticed was that the airbridge installed MUCH easier than I had anticipated, which had me a bit worried because it went on so much easier than I was led to believe on this forum. And, that worry was a good thing, because when I stuck my fingers inside the smooth coupler that comes with the Stinger to ensure that I hadn't crimped it while putting on the airbridge, I detected slivers of the coupler material that I presume got scraped off when I pushed the coupler onto the throttle body. I'm sure it was no biggie either way, but I feel better knowing nothing foreign went into the engine when I started it up for the first time.
As for "unsure" idling for a short period after installing, I detected NONE WHATSOEVER! I had previously asked Jim about this, and he said there was no reason to have to mess with any idle re-learning, and he was right. As far as performance is concerned, I do "feel" that the engine no longer seems to be straining, for lack of a better term. It really does seem to be "breathing easier". Even when gentlly accelerating at city speeds, I can hear the engine suck more air, especially when the sound of the air flow changes when the engine begins to suck more air when I reach what I presume to be the advance curve kicking in.
While I haven't had the chance yet to test much when "normally" accelerating from a stop (test drove in rush hour), I can definitely feel the car accelerate faster from the mid to higher RPM range. Horsepower numbers? Who cares about numbers? But, the seat of my pants definitely feels the car is more torque-y.
So, to all of you who are unsure of which way to go with an air induction mod, give my new friend, Jim, a call. You won't regret it!
Thanks again, Jim!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I think the people having problems probably didn't install it properly, or there was something wrong with the car they were installing it on, eg. accident repair, which made the radiator fit not quite right, causing the airbridge to butt up against the hood, or something. Improper installation might also explain why people had weird idles, because of something like the coupler being bunched up where the airbridge slips in. Along with an idle problem, I can see where a bunching up of the coupler would result in the airbridge sitting too high up on the radiator shroud, which would cause it to press against the hood.
Just thoughts.

Like you I'm waiting for my stinger also. I spoke with Jim's wife and she said they had some problems getting filters. Apparently that's been resolved and they're expecting a shipment this week. I was told my stinger would ship Monday. Hope she's right!
BTW, I sprayed some carb cleaner around the fittings to check for leaks today on the Halltech and noticed NONE. Obviously, it's design provides for a nice fit.
Be carefull with solvents such as carb cleaner on thermoplastics, such as most intake components. Hopefully, they are made of polyethylene (very chemical resistant) and not some other type of plastic, as many plastics can develope catastrophic cracks after being exposed to solvents. Even standard Loctite threadlocking compound such as 222 and 242 will attack plastics such as acetal and some nylons.
