Have any of you guys installed the XM commander in you Vettes? The antenna is a magnetic mount, so it will not stick to the surface of the car. Just wondering if anyone has an XM radio in the Vette?

Mount the antenna to the top of the rear tag bracket inside the rear fascia. Remove one of the left tail lights and mount the antenna (may want to apoxy it in place) and then run the cord up into the car via the air vent located under the left rear fender. Then run the cord under the carpet to the receiver.
I have an XM modulator and I crammed the modulater behind the factory head unit. I wrapped it in foam so it would not make any noise back there and it fits nice and tight.
Do you have any problems with the signal strength with positioning the antenna back there? The tech support people said I should buy a piece of Dynamat and install the antenna inside the car on top of the mat but I like the way you positioned it a lot better.
I mounted my Commander on the ashtray door so that I could put it back to stock at some point if I wanted. No cutting in this install. Heres some pics.
The antenna mounted behind the pass side tailight
The modulator mounted behind the a/c controls
The head mounted on the ashtray door (I mounted it to the left for visability reasons).
I did pretty much the same thing. I'm going to cut out my ash tray all together though and mount it flush with the a/c and radio hu. I have no use for the ash tray and it makes it look like it was meant to be there all the time!

You don't really need to do any cutting. It fits just fine if you take out the metal ashtray and velcro the commander face to the console. My ashtray cover still closes.
I put mine on the dash under the windscreen. It works well in most places except for where I live. THen it is directional. I saw a red vette in Jackson Wy who used double back tape and put the antenna on the crossover for the roof, ie a coupe. He ran the wire up the rubber. It looks ok there and probably better than under the windscreen. My commander head is in the ashtry, using double back tape. Works fine there. Your gonna like XM or Sirius, either one is better than listening to hog reports in Iowa.
I had mine on the dash but with as hot as it gets in Florida no 2 sided tape can live up to the pressure. I had problems with it moving during spirited driving.
Where did you find power for the install? Where is easiest switched DC to hook into?
Used the cigarette lighter line for my constant power source and then ran a jumper wire down to the fusebox under the passenger footwell and slipped the lead into one of the accessory slots with the fuse. I don't recall which fuse slot it was, but it was the one that energizes when you turn the key to the first accessory position. There is another slot open that you can insert a fuse into (#21 or #22 maybe?), although, it requires the ignition to be turned to the accessory 2 "ignition on" position. If you use that slot, the XM only works when the engine is running. I wanted mine to work just like the stereo does - in the accessory 1 position.
I will take a pic when I get home from work as it is easier to see than to explain.
