Default Windshield replacement questions

Hi,

I need a new non HUD windshield for the 98 Vert. Any estimates on what the windshield and the install should cost me?

Should I also go with an aftermarket replacement, or get a factory replacement?

Thanks,
stros

I have read (on this Forum) that it is not a mandate to replace with a "HUD" windshield.

Apparently the downside to not using OEM "HUD" is clarity of the display.

Do a search on this topic before making a decision. The OEM replacement, as I recall, is over $1000.

There is really no such thing as oem. Just make sure it's LOF or PPG. If you shop you should be able to get one installed for $2-300.

Usually, your insurance will cover windshield replacement. Some shops will even cover your deductable. I'd shop around. I've seen non HUD windshields on ebay for $359.

You really should get some estimates from shops in you area. From past posts, installed prices people here say they have paid have been all over the place.

Here's the GM part number and GM list price for a non-HUD windshield for a '98 convertible. You also may need to replace the windshield frame weatherstrip and windshield seal:

Windshield ('98, Y67, non-HUD): GM P/N 10295097, GM List $435.60

Seal, W/S ('98, Y67, non-HUD): GM P/N 10299765, GM List $19.30

Weatherstrip, W/S Frame: GM P/N 10413257, GM List - Couldn't find

NOTE: GM List Prices from GMPartsDirect.com

Hope this helps.

Just like ***** said...make sure it's either PPG, LOF, or APT brand...even though these are considered aftermarket brands...they supply probably 80-90% of the glass to auto plants to install....i install autoglass for a living...stay away from these brands..Crinamex, Safevue, Lamisafe, Guardian, Northstar......these will fit and look like crap..trust me...i have worked on these cars....

Excellent information everyone! Thanks again!!! You were all extremely helpful! I just found a glass shop in San Jose that will install a PPG windshield for $325 (parts & labor). Seems like a good deal to me.

I was quoted 1700 for a HUD coated windshield... and 600 for a non hud shield...
