I am building a pair of ramps for my 99 FRC. I would like to know just exactly where the oil plug is located under the car. It could make a difference on the design and construction of the ramps. Also, where is the oil filter and how accessable is it? Thanks.
The plug is at the back of the engine, in the center.
The filter is near the driver's front wheel.
You don't need ramps to change the oil.
Jack car at the front driver's wheel.
Put jack stand under car.
remove filter
remove oil drain plug.
remove oil cap
remove stand and lower car
wait 20 minutes
jack up car
put jack stand under car
replace filter & plug
remove stand
lower car
If you really want some ramps, give some thought to the Rhino Ramps. They are relatively inexpensive (about $30) and work very well.
Don't know if you have a Pep Boy's nearby, but they ccasionally run specials on these for less that $20. If you're having to buy materials, you may not be able to save much at this price.

If you have a lowered car like mine, the Rhino Ramps are somewhat useless. I have to jack my car up to use my ramps on the front. I'm thinking about making a custom set of ramps as well. Check out Mike Mercury's custom-designed C5 ramp page - template drawing and all.
