I just got off the phone with a local Chevy dealer where I will have my high operating temperture problem checked (Hit 260's coolant temp yesterday) and told them I also wanted the ECL recall addressed. The service advisor told me that they are back ordered for six weeks on the required parts. When I questioned what the parts were, because I thought it was a check of the lock plate and computer reflash, he put me on hold to check with his Vette Tech. He then confirmed that there was a back order from GM with the necessary parts. Never asked if I had an auto or MN6. Mine's the MN6 and I thought I should share this story, and then add the explanation after talking with them in person. I am really only concerned about my excessive operating temperature, so it's going in 8/24 for that. Anyone have anti anxiety meds, I think I'm going to need something for the DDD... hee, hee.
I called this dealership's Parts Dept. to ask about the part back order. They advised me that they are in fact replacing the plate with one which corrects the problem. Because they're not distinguishing between autos and manuals, I believe they're misinformed, and merely going through the motions to make owners believe that their problem has been rectified. Oh brother
It's going in Tuesday 8/24. I rechecked fluid levels and the radiator area for debris. It's clean so I'm suspecting thermostat and/or fans. This car regularly runs pretty hot 195 - 220, which I was led to believe is normal, but now it is apparent something is wrong. Trouble is the two dealers near me are dumb and dumber.
I set up an appointment with my local Chevy dealer last week and took my car in Wednesday to have the column lock recall repaired. No problems noted. They also fixed a malfunctioning seat belt retractor on my passenger side under a recall. No charge for any of the work and my car was ready at 3:00 PM.

Sounds like your dealer does not understand what is to be done in the case of the MN6 cars. It's spelled out in the recall notice exactly what is to be done. I think I would be finding another dealer before having anything done to the column lock.

The disadvantages of living in a rural area, makes you wonder if some people can read. I have used the two dealers that are within twenty minutes to me and been very disappointed. That's why I find this forum so valuable. If I know what needs to be done, I can get them to do it. But, if left to their diagnosis, forget about it. I can go to Greenville, SC where there is a dealer who sponsors Vette racing etc., but that's an hour drive. If I don't get satisfaction in my first visit, that's what I'll do.
A bunch of them cant read correctly in the city either!!! And that
just doesnt regard GM dealers...I have a friend whos MB SL55
power top broke........the second time it was in the shop for
over a month!!!!!No more MBs for him!
There were no parts needed when the recall was done to my car. Parts are needed ONLY if they determine that there is insufficient plate clearance, from what I understand.
Regarding engine temps: When I was heading up Palomar mountain in third gear, my oil temps were up over 240, whereas normally they stay below 220. 260 for coolant temps does sound high, though.
