Just curious, when you do in fact, safely, and legally (Oh Brother ) put the pedal to the metal and go thru some gears; do you keep the go pedal pegged and power shift or do you let off on the gas and shift? I don't usually powershift, but I have occassionally on special entrance ramp runs. The stock GM shifter doesn't provide much confidence, but I have done 1st to 2nd to 3rd without a problem. I imagine when I change it out to a Hurst, Breathless, etc. I will power shift more. So how do you scoot?
I do every now and then, but I don't do any track driving. 1st to 2nd, not as often as 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. AND, I would have never tried it with the stock shifter.

I powershift when I drive aggressively...but you do need to let off the gas briefly. Since you're going to be shifting close to redline, you take a large chance of over-reving if you keep the gas down while shifting...
I never had a problem with the stock shifter...powershifted all gears into 5th before running out of freeway space...
I have an LS1 edit graph of it somewhere...it's pretty :cool
The last 30 runs at the 1/4 mile were powershifted... foot never left the floor once the run started... not a big deal IMO... In 1/4 mile racing you get used to it after a while and you never go back to lifting between shifts again.
Road course racing is another thing and yes one lifts there...
Well, I smoked my clutch on the two occasions I did the 1/2. So now I only powershift the 3/4 until I upgrade the clutch. Kinda funny though.. I smoked the clutch on 1/2 on a pontiac GTP @ the track, so I babied it down the track to let the clutch cool.. I lost by .3's. I know that had to be embarrasing for the other guy.
I have been a powershifting fool all my life (driving for over 35 years). I love to powershift. But on my first C5, I learned that they don't like it. One new transmission, and one new clutch later I learned my lesson. I don't powershift my current car. BTW, I had been told not to by people I consider very knowledgable. They were right.
BTW, I have been to the dragstrip a few times. In my pevious car I was very consistent, so one night I made several runs without powershifting. Then I made one last run powershifting. My last two runs had identical 60' times. Powershifting made a difference of just over 1/10th of a second (I still shift pretty hard and fast not powershifting).
I've been powershifting my Camaros for years, but shortly after I bought my 2001 coupe I took it out and powershifted 1-2 with the traction control off. I ended up on the wrong side of a 4 lane highway facing eastbound in the southbound lanes (having started out in the northbound lanes). Thank God it was late at night on a Sunday and there was no traffic. That was the first and last time that I'll ever powershift my C5. It's also the last time that I'll ever turn the traction control off.
