Default Rotor Questions

I brought my Vette to the dealer for a brake check due to squealing brakes last week. The service guy said the rotors were blue from heat. I have never raced my vette but I do drive it pretty hard. He told me that i could machine down the rotors and resurface the pads to stop the noise, bringing my pads down to 25% left or deal with the noise and wait 10K and machine the rotors and replace the pads. Does this sound right? Aren't rotors designed to get hot?

Also, if I need to machine down or turn my rotors, I might as well upgrade. Anyone have any opinions on the $250 SportBrakes or the Drilled and Slotted Brembo Brakes from Corvette Garage. I hear drilled rotors are prone to cracking, is this true?

Here are the corvette garage rotors: http://www.corvettegarage.com/produc...d314fa3b97eead

Thanks for the help.

you can buy new stock rotors from 20 to 25 dollars a piece and they are just as good as the so called sport rotors.

Only a few bucks more for the GM drilled and slotted rotors. If I needed new ones I would consider these with a set of the ceramic pads.

Those are good prices. I got mine cross drilled & slotted from Rock Auto parts online for $216 shipped.

I then had them powdercoated

Check out gmpartsdirect but make sure to check their shipping costs since it is usually high. If it is higher than $216 then check out rockauto.com.

What ever you do don't waste your time on money turing the rotors, buy new ones.

For the money - I went ahead and got new pads too so they would seat properly on the new rotors.

My slotted / dimpled rotors from Sportbrakes.com look awesome. Plus the zinc coating prevents the ugly rusting that the oem rotors do after sitting for a short period of time. I also have the delco ceramic pads from gmpartsdirect.com. I'm not so sure about the less dust thing. Mine are dusting more than the stock pads did. Sucks. They are new though and hopefully the dust will lessen as the pads age.

The Sportbrakes seem to be a popular choice. They are reasonably priced and perform well.

Quite a few people here have purchased the Sportbrake rotors and I have yet to hear anyone who isn't happy with them. If you're worried about them cracking, you can get dimpled instead of drilled. I had the Sportbrake rotors on my previous Vette and I'm getting ready to buy a set for my '04. They're the best buy out there for drilled/slotted rotors.
