Amazing how many new and old threads deal with aftermarket shifters. And many of those threads deal with buzzes, rattles or, worse, parts falling off of shifters and potentially causing shifting problems. I know: I had the problem with my BPP shifter when a bolt vibrated off and fell down next to the lever, preventing me from getting into 5th, 6th and reverse.
One word: Locktite. When installing a new shifter, put a dab of locktite on every fastener - even on the **** when you thread it on. And if you've already installed your shifter, take 20 minutes to go in and reinstall it, putting locktite on everything. It'll prevent all sorts of future problems.
And that way, when your tranny gets stuck in fourth gear (like mine did yesterday at Road America), you'll know there's nothing wrong with your shifter - it's just that your tranny is trashed.
Locktite is great stuff, seems like the new adhesives have gone high strength. I used some auto body glue that they put quarter panels on with, it has small strands of fiber in it for strength. I made the repair on some side exhaust covers and so far no problems.
We use locktite at our manufacturing plant on everything. Better make sure you get the right kind or you will never get the shifter apart again. My .02

Oh man, do I. At least the toy is still warranteed. Took it to the dealer this morning to have the tranny checked out. Their Vette expert says he's never seen a single problem with a C5 tranny. I say according to this forum, there's already been a service bulletin put out about problems with the 3-4 aluminum shift forks bending and that there are steel forks to fix the problem. He said he'd check, and darned if he didn't find a bulletin just out - still so new it hadn't been officially published by GM, covering the problem with the stuck shifter. Parts are now on order. So, anybody out there who hasn't yet had their tranny stick in 3rd or 4th, if and when it happens, there's a dealer fix (don't know if it will be a recall, however).
