...is coming to Sacramento. I just registered for it. Planning on driving the new Vette on their courses, as well as an XLR (hopefully). Anyone ever been to one of these?
I went to one in 2000 to drive a new Trans Am. I was disappointed in the car. There was a Corvette available, so I drove it. Then I bought one. The waits to drive the most popular vehicles can get long, but there are plenty of others to drive. Suggestion: put the Corvette in 1st gear when you drive it, or it will constantly upshift. Traction control can not be turned off on any of the cars.
I went to one a little less than a year ago and its a big reason why I own a Corvette today. Had to drive a "regular" passenger car to qualify to drive the Vette so I tried out the new GTO. I was very impressed with it (other than its bland looks). And then I drove the Vette. From that moment on I was hooked.

The one I went to the XLR was just for show and not go. You can sit in it, but that is it.
If it is like the one I went to you will stand in line for 30 mins for a 30 second drive. But it is fun nevertheless, and that 30 seconds persuaded me to get the Vette and not the GTO.

Are you saying that the vettes would be "special" automatics, and that they'd be programmed so that in drive they'll upshift sooner? And, that first is secretly programmed to upshift at a "normal" rate, or are you suggesting starting off in first, and using manual shifting of the autos to obtain a more normal drivability?

Yes I have been to a few of them in Sacramento and Alameda consecutive weekends. Aren't those bathrooms first class? That is where I drove my first C-5 and decided at that time it was worth $40,000 for a car purchase. I also went to one of the events when the Trans-AM broke down and was taken out of service. I think they put in a Toyota Celica as a substitute. When is autoshow in Motion coming?

no cuz the course that they let you drive on is so freaking short first gear is all you need

drive the 6 speed instead!!!!!
The 6 spd. felt like my old big block 454 and was much more fun than the automatic but consider these corvettes were all base corvettes so the 6 spd. had a 3.42 axle and the auto 2.73 so there is your difference in feeling

It was here in Denver a couple of weeks ago. I had signed up a week before on their online site.
They would only let you drive the vette ONE time, and on the first straight away told you to shift into second and stay there the entire 30 second ride.
But one of the other guys here, was invited to the first night event and he said he got to drive the vette as much as he wanted and shift as much as he wanted. And they were timing everyone and making a race out of it.
Drove almost everything else, including the GTO a few times but had to wait 15-20 min between each ride.
Went to one in Houston last year. Stood in line to drive the vette, half way thru the line a lady working the line tells me I have to drive another car before you can drive the vette. Didn't want people just driveing Corvette's and leaving. Went to the shortest line and drove a Buick LeSabre and came back. Anyway, drove a black 6-speed and that started the quest for a 'Vette.
