Default 3M clear bra

Does anyone have any info on the clear tape bra. I believe 3M makes it. How is it applied, cost etc?

I love my 3M clear bra. Mine has a piece around the nose of the car and about 18 inches up the hood. It has pieces on the mirrors and the guy that installed mine used some other pieces he had behind the rear fender wells. I have no rock chips in my car at all, with about 6500 miles on the car. I will not hesitate to put this product on every new vehicle I buy in the future. It was about $350 and was done at a window tinting place. The amazing part is you can't see it unless you look for it. If you know where the lines are you can see them, but if you didn't know you wouldn't see it at all. It is incredible. Highly recommended.

Do you think most tint places would carry this? I only ask because I am on the road and will not be home for two weeks. I am planning a drive when I get back from Miami to Atlanta and I believe I would like have this applied before I leave.

I have it on all my cars. It's not intended for non-experienced installer. It takes a lot of practice to do it right. I’ve had it on my last seven cars. Awesome stuff!

I have it on my other cars and installed it myself. Did not put it on Vette but probably should. The more complex the contours the more difficult to apply. It is tedious as a DIY project but not impossible and results are great. I bought uncut sheets cause cheap.

If for some reason it had to be removed--how difficult would it be and would the finish be OK?

Wow that is a long time who installed it for you and how much does it cost now?

Not difficult to remove. Heat one corner with hair dryer and lift the corner and you can then remove entire piece. There is a solution you will need to buy from the company[X-Pel] to remove the glue from the paint which is easily removed. Great product! Will not damage paint!

It is not new. I had it on one car for 5 years and the only problem when I took it off was the covered part looked better and slightly less faded. Was daily driver prone to sand blasting in winter.

I think the 3M brand product is called Invinca Shield.

http://www.invinca-shield.com/main.htm

This page has links to dealers. Some places sell the precut pieces and you can install it yourself, at your own risk!
My local shop sells another brand and he quoted me a 5 yr no fade warranty. I'd prefer to get real 3M stuff tho.

3M calls it Scotchcal. Other companies buy the film in bulk and laser cut it into kits for resale. There are many, many names for it-

Scotchcal, clearbra, x-pel, etc.

Hib Halverson did a great article on Scotchcal - http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/....php?qstId=507

Here's my own experience - http://www.50thregistry.com/forums/i...showtopic=2660

If you do a search for 3M on this forum, you'll get lots of info. Here's some links to others
