Bought my first vet earlier this year and took the wife on our first road trip; New Mexico to Lake Tahoe. Not that there was a lot of options but all 2-lane roads. I see a lot written about racing performance of Z06, but this car delivers lots of enjoyment on the open highway. One of the roads in Nev. (Ely to Carson City) is incredibly open and free of traffic. While I'm usually careful about excess speed, these roads allowed me to drive at speed for an extended period of time; just enough slower traffic to make it fun.
The seats were comfortable (the wife didn't complain), more storage space than other sports cars-fit all her shoes, the ecklers partition quitted the ride, and it was just nice to drive a vet on the open road-and wave to the brotherhood.
In summary, I just want perspective new buyers, as I was this time last year, not only to consider the racing performance but have an idea of the other benefits the Z06 offers. Awesome
I just went on a 3 hour trip with my 2003 Z06 and was surprised at how much fun it was. Usually this same trip bothers me physically. But with my Z06 I didn't even use the cruise control. I don't know if it was because the car was very comfortable or because I was so hyped about driving on the open road that made trip more pleasant. I'm sure all the waves from other Corvettes helped some.
On a bad note, I ended up with a small windshield nick on the driver's side. It's hardly noticable until sunlight hits it. I hate how these cars are rock magnets.

Options for what? The vet, taking the wife, the itinerary, or taking 2 loane roads?
With all the hassle of flying airlines anymore, my trips have to exceed 500 miles before I will consider flying. The Z06 is such a treat to take along I often bump my limit so I can fly first class, if you catch my drift.
My wife and I travelled from Houston Texas to San Diego, up the coast road to Monterrey, to SF, and then east through Yosemite, across Nevada to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. We then went to Colorado National Monument and to Breckenridge before returning to Texas. The Z06 is indeed a comfortable road machine, and we travelled over 600 miles some days. I was selfish and drive the entire trip.
The roads were mostly great, with California 1 and Utah 12 being real highligh

I love to road trip my car. I have driven all over the east coast and out as far as ohio. Now the only problem is all the little chips and stuff thats comes from a lot of driving. Stands out pretty wel on black.
