Default I need some BSM removal tips!!

I plan to remove my body side moldings next week..With the forum site not working well I can't do a search on it..I remember reading that I should heat it up and try to pull it back then use fishing line to saw through it..What do I clean the glue off the body with that won't damage the paint? Your tips are appreciated....

I actually used thin steel wire (aka, guitar string) cause fishing line wears thru too easy. Also make sure you wear gloves. Get goof off or similar style adhesive dissolver. Also have alot of patience. It takes quite some elbow grease.

I would use fishing line, less chance of harming your cars paint. I didn't use heat, just fishing line and wore leather gloves. As a section came off I put a rag between the molding and car body to give me some room. Taking your time should still only be around 30 minutes max for both sides.

Some people have also used a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive which they claim will help with the removal of BSM.

Some Goo Gone should do the trick on the adhesive. Good luck with the removal.

Sorry but got to call on this one.
The only problem I ever heard of with removal involved a car that had possibly been repainted and the paint didn't match. This is a very common mod done by a lot of forum members with no problems.

I would like to hear of any horror stories. The rest of you BSM removers please get my back on this one.

Here's what I did on my 04 Mag Red coupe and a friend's Torch Red 04 vert. Apply painters tape (Blue masking tape) above and below the BSM. Take a flexible putty knife and cover the end with the tape. Using a hair dryer, "warm" the BSM for a few seconds and then very carefully slide the putty knife under the BSM. As you do this, use your other hand to gently pull the BSM away from the car while, at the same time, you continue to warm the BSM with the hair dryer. I removed mine in less then 3 minutes with ABSOLUTELY NO damage to the car. I did the same with my friend's vert.

I only have one question ! your applying heat from a hair dryer with one hand, prying with a flexable putty knife with the other, and pulling on the molding with the other.
What about us people with only two hands!

Yuppers...that was mine...the driver's door had been repainted at some point, so there was a very noticeable "trough" in the clearcoat because they didn't remove the BSM's when they painted...the paint matched okay, but that low area was completely unacceptable. Sad too, as the rest of the car looked like there was never anything there. Rather than spend a considerable amount to get the door fixed, I just put them back on.
