Default HELP - Need a New Windshield - Have HUD too

Well it finally happened... driving along and whammo a half dollar sized hole/chip and then a 2 foot long crack started. Fortunately I have $0 deductable Comp with State Farm.

Do I have to be concerned about who does my windshield? Don't I need a special windshield for my HUD?

Arghhhhh

yes you need a special windshield be happy you have glass insurance $$$$. Only one company makes glass for the corvette so the glass will be the same no matter what. Installers from state farms companies are pretty good .It will take most of the day so be patient.

I just went thru this, I had the windshield replaced and I recommend that you check through you local clubs etc to find a good installer. I dont recommend any one who will replace it in your driveway!!!!. Mine was done by a shop that specialized in glass work for customs and restorations. Also a standard windshield will work for a Hud car without any problems, however since it is insured get the hud windshield, Check the lower right corner of the wind shield and there will be a logo with the type of windshield, this is what you want to replace it with as there are several OEM and aftermarket windshields. Good luck

Yes, there is a special windshield for the HUD equipped cars. Whoever does your car, make sure they get the seals right so it does not leak.

Let me give you a little advice since i actually install autoglass for a living.....first off...you pay for insurance...you have the right to have whatever glass you want in the car.....request APT(which is standard in most), PPG, or LOF brands....do not accept any other,,TRUST ME.....request that you bring it in to the shop or drop it off so nobody is rushing to get it done so they can get to the next job....i've seen to many guys out there not prepping glass right while in a hurry and screwing up cars left from right.......

You also have the right to choose whatever glass company you want....it doesn't matter what anybody tells you....pick who you want......

if you have anymore questions..feel free to ask

On a similar note, I have acquired a chip (really small - not more than 1/4 inch) and I would rather get a spot fix than risk someone screwing up my windshield/seal. But the chip is right on the right edge of where the HUD reflects. My concern (I have done nothing yet) is that the spot fix will be slightly bigger than the chip and cause a worse reflection that interferes with the HUD even more. Comments, suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
getting the spot fixed shouldn't interfere with the display especially if that small...there is a chance of a spot getting bigger when in the process of fixing one due to pressure when injecting the resin..but when fixing a spot..the cooler the windshield the better..odds of the spot getting bigger while repairing it is very little....

the HUD windshields...you can not see a difference in them...it's a reflective element in the glass that helps enhance the display...

Don't settle for anything less than the GM OEM windshield!!!

And yes, you DO want a HUD windshield.

If they give you any static you can write the Insurance Commissioner of your state. State Farm is pretty good to work with. I highly recommend that you do not carry a deductible on your comprehensive as you have found out. Saw a post tonight too where a flourescent light fell on a guys hood and made a mess out of the hood . . another comprehensive claim
