I agree --- Castrol Syntec oil stinks. ExxonMobil filed a lawsuit against Castrol for claiming that its oil was synthetic when in fact it really wasn't. Castrol was using dino oil in the base stock for its "synthetic" oil.

It's a shame they've burdened you with this "consumption test" BS. You might try doing a search and printing the MOUNTAINS of threads just here on corvetteforum regarding this problem.
I had it on my 01. My dealer was very professional about it. I had saved the receipts of each quart i bought and wrote the mileage (and they could see the recept date)...they at 1st wanted to do a consumption test...
I understood that they had to make sure my claim was valid...so i suggested they review the recepts, then swipe their finger around the tailpipe, rub a white rag on the back valence (had been awhile since i'd washed her), then pull a couple spark plugs....at which point they just took it in a re-ringed it with Napier-profile oil scrapers.
they did an excellent job. I put another 20k miles on her over two years...and NEVER had an issue. Consumption dropped from a quart every 300-400 miles to over 1500 miles.
Synthetics are the best lube you can buy...as long as the motor is designed for it....and unfortunately Chevy took a shortcut in '01. Good luck with it.

My 2001 Z-06 just turned 20000 miles. It has never used any oil.
Just goes to show!
Dont quote me on this, but I believe the oil consumption problem is supposedly related to certain driving conditions/habits of some drivers and supposedly wouldnt occur under what GM considers to be normal driving conditions/habits. Extended low MPH/High RPM or constant low RPM conditions I believe if I remember an articale I had read awhile back.
mobil 1 is so cheap. so light and strong. so efficient. i use it on my hair. a certain amount of lube is lost at the ring/wall interface. i will add a lot of lubricant to that engine before i re-ring. IMHO. thx, johnny

That is all General Motors B.S. it's bad rings, not bad drivers. My 02 used a quart every 600 miles. I made them give me a new car.

Thats why I used alot of supposedlys. Guess I didnt word it exactly right. GM made the statements to infer that it wasnt a design flaw, rather something discovered by drivers driving in ways they didnt anticipate
